<p>The 12 College Exchange started off as a consortium of 9 or 10 same-sex colleges plus UMass back in the late sixties when most of them were obsessed with co-education and not quite sure how to accomplish it. It gave women a chance to enroll for a semester or two at men’s colleges and vice-versa (though, truth be told the male colleges, Dartmouth and Wesleyan in particular, tended to be net importers of exchange students.) I don’t think it creates the same buzz today that it once did; in fact, I had to go to the Mt Holyoke website to find it: </p>
