Ski week in CO. Where to stay, best time.

If you are moderate to beginner skiiers, you might like Granby Ranch near Winter Park - small cozy inexpensive resort.

You could also get an inexpensive cabin for 8 at nearby Snow Mountain Ranch which has other activities in case you get bored skiing.

4/10 may be late for the best snow, but the end of the season has its advantages. Visibility is almost always good and not freezing on the chair lift can be nice. I would try to avoid anywhere too close to Denver.

On 4/10 the only resorts still open may be the ones near Denver, A-Basin and Loveland.

^^ Breckenridge, Winter Park stayed open until 4/23 last year… Steamboat closed on 4/12. But unless there’s a lot of snow, conditions at that point can be pretty lousy.

For moderate to beginner skiiers 4/10 is a horrible week. Spring skiing takes some special skills.

^^and most beginner runs are at the base of the hill. The snow gets very soft and mushy and it can be 45 degrees in the afternoon with the sun beating on the hills. It’s hard to ski in the mush. Going in the later months it is much better to go to areas that have higher elevations at the base. NOT Steamboat, not Winter Park. Keystone is better (although above someone posted it is closing earlier), Beaver Creek is better.

If you end up with the April date, would you be willing to consider some other location? I think Whistler stays open very late. I’m not a good skier at all, but enjoyed a spring break trip there. My ex and my daughter are much better than I am and also had a great time. The Fairmont is right at the lift. The Four Seasons is a bit farther, but they give you hot chocolate as they remove your boots for you at their little ski-storage lodge at the bottom of the mountain.
