STILL talking to DD every week via Skype for about $7 for an hour is a BARGAIN, we think…and we do it every week…our computer to her cell phone. On occasion, she is someplace with decent internet access and we get free computer to computer voice only. AND on VERY VERY occasional times, we actually get to see her using video Skype.

We talked to her this morning and it was a very good connection, no delay…just great.

skype allows H to talk to his elderly mother in Europe who lives alone (H is an only) several times a week. He sets up his notebook next to is laptop and talks to her while continuing to work. When we are there, we skype the kids so she can see/talk to them. We’ve shown her her house and ours with Google Earth, and looked up all kinds of information on her neighbors and relatives…

My son and I skyped for free last night, first text only and then video on our computers. I got a chance to see the room he is living in this semester and that was amazing to me halfway around the world. The audio broke up after 10 minutes so I hung up and got back to him by texting.

By the way, yes you can skype to some countries in Africa.

Concerning the time difference to Asia. It’s not really a problem, you just have to plan ahead and pick a time that is least intrusive on sleep for both of you.

You can Skype to MOST countries in Africa…but not for $12.95 a month. That was what was meant in the above discussion.

We Skype to DD in subSahara Africa every Sunday with no problems…our computer to her cell phone. About $7 a week for an hour long call. Well worth it.
