Sleep: is 5/6 hours night + nap as good as 8 hours?

I also frequently wake up around 3am- I turn the radio on to BBC and after a few minutes will go back to sleep- something about the accents in the middle of night causes me to nod off. Luckily my H works nights so I don’t keep him up.

The benefits of living an, ehem, strenuous lifestyle from early on…Learn to sleep late and later - start pulling all nighters as a teenager; easy to pull multiple all nighters per week in college (computer science :)); then as a parent of DD1 who slept the night at 5 **years **:). Both our girls can manage with little sleep but make it up on weekends. DD1 practically lives at the studio and had no problem adjusting to 20 hour work days of freshman architecture.

It’s nice to have the extra 2 hours a day. It’s not for everyone but it really helps to be able to do it. I worked 60 hours a week for 6 months and it was not a big issue at all, and I’m in my early 50’s. My sleep schedule is usually 1:00 am to 7:00 am, and weekends maybe 3:00 am to 9:00 am.

It may be hereditary; my father was used to late nights up and early mornings up in the Army; never slept more than 5-6 hours a day. But my wife and her folks are all used to 8+ hours a day otherwise they can’t function.

don’t know if it’s just me, but I always feel like crap after waking up from a nap…
