There is no rule to put a birthdate in the profile. I’ve been on CC for 8 years and I do not have a birthdate in my profile. You put one in your profile. If you chose to lie about it, then it is one more reason, among others, that your posts will not be considered seriously.

Lol, I’m not going to get into this argument. I came here looking for a relatively intellectual debate and instead people think I’m older then I am because I write coherently and have an “advanced syntax”? I don’t even know what syntax means. Sorry I’m not ultra-familiar with all the ins and outs of my control panel - I guess I’ll work on it. I now have my age hidden, if that makes you feel better.

Uh, no, it doesn’t. The fact is that you presented yourself as one way and stated the opposite and so in either your profile or on the posts, you are lying. When people lie, others do not take them seriously. It is fraudulent.

Further, with hardly any post count, you have to build up a reputation before people take your posts with any validity. Starting out by lying and further, starting out by putting down the many members who have posted on CC for a long time, will not make others consider the content of your posts as valid or worthy.

You also say that it is “sickening to read the crap” posted by even kid members of CC. Then, why oh why, if you find the parents and kids’ posts on CC to be so crappy, are you now posting on forums asking for advice (I see you have a couple of posts today). I guess you find CC has some value for you after all.

Lucky for you, I see that one of your inquiries today, about submitting art portfolio supplements was answered by none other than Sally Rubenstone, a Senior Advisor on CC. So before you bash CC much more, please see that already you have received free advice from an expert.

OP, if you don’t know what syntax means, and you write phrases such as “older then I am,” I’m wondering how you manage to get “alot of A’s in english.”

"I came here looking for a relatively intellectual debate "

You appear to have come here to start a debate about something you know every little about – College Confidential. There’s no evidence that you are very familiar with our site.If you were familiar with our site, you would realize that relatively few parents post in Parents Forum or Cafe to brag about their kids stats. Many parents here have been very helpful to students with nonstellar stats who lack info about the application process.

Many of us parents --including ones who’ve been on here for years – are people like me who have kids with nonstellar stats who have gone to very ordinary colleges.

Most parents here don’t like the chances forums, don’t make chances predictions, and don’t hang out in the chances forums.

It’s silly to try to start debates without taking the time to learn about what you’re debating.

It also seems silly to come to a college information site to start a debate with parents. What’s the point? Don’t you have something more productive to do with your time?

If you want an intellectual debate, join a debate or forensics club or go to some web site that’s set up for debate. This is not that kind of place.

Don’t feed the ■■■■■■.

■■■■■ BUSTED!

I don’t care how old OP is because I totally get what s/he is saying, and relieved that these bunch are plain mean to anyone that question their very beings, I mean it was not me, it’s YOUs!!
here is the thread made my eyes open.
by no means you are not the only one, don’t give up post in elsewhere but avoid these parent turf
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/943533-parents-denial-12.html

“question their very beings”

Not only are we clueless; maybe we should not be alive.

:D

^is it really THAT bad? you mean you really can not even guess what pathetic ESL here trying to say? I mean it’s cold.
you beings?
beings such as yous?
correct it then, so other people would get it, eh?

translation anyone?

I have no trouble believing the OP is a high school student. I hang out on a couple forums with a fairly high teenage demographic and both the tone and subject matter rings true compared with what I’ve seen from other teens.

It reminds me of a quote from a book–someone in it said they once got a marvelous idea for a new innovation in farming and proudly went down to the town to share it–then discovered that his “new innovation” had been old news for a couple hundred years.

Being a teenager is like that, I think. You hit on an idea and, wow, it’s new and amazing and you just HAVE to share it and Improve The World with it. And The World has already heard that particular idea a hundred times before and kind of shrugs its shoulders and goes, “Meh.”

Is the response to the OP’s thread really due to its subject matter? IMO, it’s more due to the condescending tone (and the fact that no one likes to be lectured by a newbie). But thinking you know everything is part of being a teenager. Don’t be too harsh on him; your own kids have probably been just as obnoxious elsewhere on the internet at some point.

mafool mefool
I thought that’s (translation)what you do for livin’ no?
help me out here, hon

and Naturally above^ thanks again you are the nice one, I knew.

What in the world is going on here???
