In support of USPS, i was expecting a Fed Ex delivery in early June. I got a notification that it had been delivered, only I had been in view of the front door during the time it was supposed to be delivered. While I was trying to contact Fed Ex to see what happened, our mail deliverer saw a Fed Ex package with my name and address on a porch across and up the street. She took it and delivered it to us; rent the doorbell to make sure we were supposed to get it. Above and beyond the call of duty.

I don’t put outgoing mail in our box these days. The nearby PO is a regional center and they have a drive-by, hands-free blue drop box. I weigh the 6x9 mask envelope on the food scale, add postage (more than necessary) and off it goes. Guess I’m lucky I’ve only been busted on the 1/4" thickness once!
My first set of masks went out in envelopes with 4 stamps. They were delayed and arrived to my friends and family with Postage Due. My last set of about 4 masks went into a manila envelope and I had to go into the Post Office and pay about $8 just to mail some masks!
Mail is so slow! Final car payment had to be sent by mail (all previous payments were automatically withdrawn). I mailed the check on August 1 and it was due on August 11. They still have not received it, so I made my last payment electronically so as to maintain my credit rating. Yes, I had to make two payments due to SLOW mail. This is a real problem!
I mailed my dog’s medication prescription to the online service we use a week ago today - STILL not received. This is outrageous. I do this because it saves me almost $100 a month on her medication.
I have experienced that the bank has been very slow processing mail in payments. So it could be the mail but it could also be the bank.
I have definitely noticed a difference over the last few months. Items that are shown for that day’s delivery in my Informed Mail Preview don’t show up until the next day on a regular basis. Frustrating!
Yes, it’s a big deal for us since clients send us payment by mail.
How many masks in each envelope? I was using 6x9 and putting 6-10 masks in, and the cost was $3.80 to $5. I went to the self serve kiosk at the post office and picked ‘envelop’ and it said $1.60 for the 7-8 masks. So I asked at the counter and they said it was not the weight but that the envelopes exceeded 1/4" inch. I recently mailed 4 very flat masks in an envelop with 3 stamps $1.65 and we’ll see if they get there.
I mailed 3 packages last week. One to a friend who lives about 10 miles from me took 5 days as it took a side trip to St. Paul MN. One to CT took 5 days (as expected). ONe to Brooklyn NY took 7 days, 2 days longer than expected. All in all, better than paying $20 for FedEX.
I’m for residential mail going to 3 days per week (MWF or TThS). I’d be okay with putting cluster boxes in all neighborhoods (and I get mail delivered to my door) so the drivers could cut down on delivery time (I’ve lived in apts and townhouses many times and it is not a big deal to pick up your mail)
Third day in a row in which we received nothing but ‘junk’ mail. Allowing folks to opt out of the direct mail association ads (aka USPS spam) would eliminate a bunch of USPS labor hours.
Personally, I would be fine with going to a 5-day per week delivery schedule.
Yes, us also. Lol… Now it’s going to be the old “checks in the mail”… Might have to suggest patients call with credit card payments… Hmm…
It took 23 days to get taxes mailed from Tacoma, WA to Fresno, CA. I used a large 9" x 12" envelope (for my deceased FIL and had to include extra paperwork to explain situation). There was no tracking info from July 19 through August 4 and I assume it was just sitting somewhere all that time. Unacceptable.
This is very disturbing.
And I had it confirmed locally to be true by a postal worker.
“Mail sorting equipment is being removed from U.S. Postal Service (USPS) offices amid a slew of operational changes implemented by new Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, according to the head of the Iowa Postal Workers Union.”
So slow. Our regular carrier left a few years back and we have had subs or carriers doing overtime on our route in recent years. In the last week, the mail has not shown up, twice. It is becoming criminal.
It was not likely due to USPS, but to Fresno tax office being closed for COVID. I have read numerous reports that the mail was just being held in locked trailer trucks in the Fresno parking lot. The Fresno office re-opened on June 29, at least with a small staff and SD, and they still have a huge backlog from the tons of mail that was sitting there since March.

Thank you for that information.
I can’t imagine what is happening to mail at federal offices. Agencies have a procedure to xray all mail, sort it, log all the fed ex or express packages, deliver it to the office or desk. If the person wasn’t sitting there to sign for it if it was express, back it went to the mail room. It could take a week just to get it to the right person. I’d tell people NOT to sent it by express mail as it took longer.
Everyone has been working from home since March. I don’t know if someone opens the mail and scans it or not.
Now bills etc will be late. We need to make complaints. Yes, I know where this is coming from. To Convient doing this now. There are complaint forms to fill out.
My USPS dashboard shows that we are getting NO mail today. That is very unusual.
