Small Appliance You Use the Most/Least

Blenders are an interesting discussion. I grew up with daily health drinks and when I have the old Osterizer out with the glass canister, I use it frequently for scrambled eggs, sauces, etc. Rinse and replace on the base. But as a longevity gift at work, I chose a fancy Breville blender a few years back. It is better for many things, but the plastic canister with the very sharp blades makes me think it is not being cleaned properly with just a rinse, so gets used far less often.

Most used would be my instant water boiler. Least used, the waffle maker.

Love a waffle maker and wish I had a more deluxe one! Always prefer waffles over pancakes. I’ve been using my waffle maker every weekend to make chaffles (that was a separate thread!

Also good in a waffle maker: cornbread mix, jiffy cake mix for dessert waffles. After thanksgiving I made stuffing waffles - just the stuffing pressed in the waffle maker - topped with leftover cranberry sauce - AMAZING!!

I wish I lived in a house where the blender wasn’t used. I’m super noise sensitive. I can’t be in the same room as the blender when it’s on, and H has used it at least 2x a day every single day for 25+ years for his protein shakes. So, the blender and his electric water heater are the most often used small appliances in our house. I don’t use many myself.

Least used - the crock pot. I am not a fan of crock pot food, and somehow I got 3 for our wedding. I’ve used it once. H will make things in it on occasion. The coffee maker is also seldom used. I don’t drink coffee, and H just does instant in the mornings. I think he drags it out for Xmas.

Light use: the waffle maker and griddle and foreman grill - I used to use these more when the kids were home.

We don’t have an instant pot or food processor or anything like that.

Least: waffle iron and toaster

Most: Coffee maker and blender (DH makes smoothies 7 days/week)

Mixed: Instant pot gets heavy use in fall/winter, is rarely used in spring/summer, other than to “hard boil” eggs.

Most: Mr. Coffee
Least: food processor

Waffle iron, every weekend, often twice, for husband and son. Recently, daughter found a soufflé pancake recipe online, so now I make her those every weekend, using hand mixer to beat the egg whites, and a scale to measure flour and sugar in grams.

Son has peanut allergy so we often make our own cookies and cakes – stand mixer gets regular use.

Blender only use occasionally, for milkshakes and Ina Garten’s hollandaise recipe, but even still invested in a Vitamix a few years ago because we got tired of how our cheaper one (but not even that cheap) struggled to do even basic blending.

Only occasional use for the food processor as well, but it’s an absolute necessity for a few recipes, so we keep it on hand.

Crockpot is gathering dust in the pantry.

Microwave and drip coffee machine - every day, or more. Both out and accessible. Toaster is also out but I rarely use it.

Put away and only occasionally used - crock pot(s), waffle maker, Foreman grill (don’t laugh - we do have one, maybe two leftover from college kids who didn’t use them there either!), blender, food processor, stick blender (for hot soups and such).

Have avoided getting an instant pot, air fryer, rice cooker, egg cooker, stand mixer - no room and I know I won’t use them.

We got a Soda Stream last year for Christmas, and I use it frequently. The grapefruit flavor is my favorite!

I’ve gotten rid of a bread maker and an ice cream/gelato maker.

Electric kettle (multiple times a day)
KitchenAid stand mixer (every Sunday!)
Blender (at least, weekly)
Toaster - 4 slice model with bagel function (almost daily)
Food Processor - at least monthly

@mathmom Does your husband have a waffle recipe? I use the one on the side of the Trader Joe’s buttermilk container; it’s the best - and failsafe!

Most- keurig, daily.
Least- kitchenaid stand mixer, bi-annually.
Gave away- foreman grill, bread machine, crockpot.
Used weekly- Instant Pot, immersion blender, mini food processor, Vitamix, waffle maker, toaster.

I use my fancy espresso machine to make 2 lattes for myself every day I’m home, and it makes me happy. If we have guests, I usually make them lattes also. My husband uses the 1987 4 cup Krups coffee pot for 1 cup of coffee every day.
We use the microwave and toast oven fairly often, probably multiple times per week. We use the blender often in the summer, to make frozen drinks.
Least used may be the Belgian waffle maker (at least 20 years old, and well used when kids were home) KitchenAid stand mixer, but I wouldn’t think of giving either up.
We don’t have a lot of small appliances that we actually use. We have a slow cooker and a slushee machine in our attic, brand new, and they’ve been up there at least 12 years. We do have a snow cone machine in the basement, that was well loved for many years, but it was probably $25 buck or less. I have a can-opener, but we lack many small things lots of people seem to have. No rice cooker, insta-pot, air fryer, George Forman thing, food processor, or regular toaster.

Most used - Microwave, coffee maker (and coffee grinder), toaster oven, rice cooker (which is also a veggie steamer).

Least used - Instapot … bought it for DH’s retirement after he talked about them several times. (For my dishes, I like crockpot). I need to head back to the Instapot thread.

Keurig for sure - every day
Microwave - close to every day
Instant Pot - 2-3 times per week
Vitamix Blender - occasionally - depends on if I am on a smoothie kick or not.

We downsized a couple of years ago, and I got rid of a LOT of small appliances. At the time I ditched the Kitchen Aid Mixer, food processor, waffle iron, electric griddle, rice cooker, toaster oven (I didn’t have a regular toaster), electric can opener, and crockpot. The only one of those I have replaced is the crock pot. I occasionally miss having a food processor. I kept the George Foreman Grill, but we have not used it since we downsized, so it should probably go. I also kept the immersion blender but don’t use it often. Same goes for the handheld mixer. The latter two are pretty small, but that GF grill takes up a lot of space.

I count the microwave as a major appliance, not a small appliance. So that aside,

Most frequent: toaster, coffee maker
Least frequent: blender

Worth keeping: rice cooker, crockpot, food processor, bread maker (we make pizza dough in it a couple times a month).

We got rid of the ice cream maker and waffle iron when we downsized a couple years ago.

Keurig and toaster oven are used every day. The food processor is used for deviled eggs (a lot in summer) and curry chicken dip. I have a Crock-Pot that is used occasionally but has its own drawer so it’s not in the way. My son, who lives here, is talking about getting an air fryer. I’m like sure but it has to live in the basement when it’s not in use. I live in fear that some small appliance will take up residence on my counter and never go away. The Keurig and the toaster oven are hidden in a small indentation between the refrigerator and a fake cabinet that conceals the hot water pipes that go to the upstairs bathroom (it’s really old house.) I call it the breakfast nook.

Most used - toaster, espresso maker, stand mixer

Least used - (confession- my husband is a small appliance hoarder) ice cream maker, juicer, blender, stick blender, waffle maker. We’ve lived in our current home for 1 1/2 years and they have not been used once. Couldn’t even tell you where most of them are.

I use my tea kettle daily. I use my mixer, pressure cooker, vitamix, and food processor multiple times each week. I use my coffee pot, bread maker, and toaster weekly. We rarely use the espresso machine because it was my daughter’s and she’s at college now. Other rarely used things are a waffle maker, panini press, and an immersion blender. We got rid of a slow cooker and rice cooker when we got the pressure cooker.

We don’t have too many kitchen gadgets.

Electric kettle is used daily for water for coffee, hot cocoa, tea.

Used enough that I wouldn’t get rid of them - slow cooker, mixer, waffle iron, and blender.

probably should get rid of the bread machine. We used to use it often, but it’s been a while.

We do not have a toaster or a toaster oven. We have a oven that has a small oven on top and it toasts.

Coffee maker, electric pot, toaster, electric juicer every day. Blender, hand mixer, food processor, electric skillet weekly. Stand mixer, waffle maker, panini maker, sous vide once or twice a month.

When S is at home, the blender gets used twice a day, so I leave it on the counter. H makes fresh grapefruit or OJ almost every morning, so the juicer stays out too.

Love Breville small appliances!

Most: definitely the Keurig (my husband would happily take a beating rather than give up his Keurig!), and the hot/cold water cooler.

Least: the Ninja. Bought it b/c S19 had a smoothie for bfast everyday. Tried to get him to take it to school w/ him. It’s sitting in the back of the cabinet waiting for him for when he gets his own place or gets into a program house.
