To offer something different, but still near Charleston’s beaches: Inn at Middleton, contemporary small cool hotel, outdoor pool, set within historic plantation park/“living museum” along river, kayaking and abundant landscaped walking garden paths, breakfast included, excellent restaurant within museum grounds (for dinner), pets allowed, free run of outdoor park at night (hotel guests only, museum closed). We’ve been several times. Truly a different experience. You can drive to Charleston in 15 minutes, if you need more activities, but enough to see/do to keep you at inn itself.
^^ Great suggestions! We clearly aren’t sure which way to go -literally (east or west!) I appreciate these comments and will check them all out.
Nantucket Figawi weekend.
Started as a small sailboat race from cape to Nantucket between a couple of drinking buddies.
It got really foggy thst first time.
One of the racers described the predicament when they bellied up to the bar after the race. “and I was like, where the figawi?” (abbreviation of actual sentence in a New England accent)
Now a huge race and tradition each year.
