SNL and BTS

I’m impressed by their choreography, and they are really engaging to watch, supercute. But the music seems like pretty standard boyband. I like some KPop but these songs didn 't grab me.

Yesterday, I re-watched the two songs they performed on SNL.

As I mentioned earlier, they’re very athletic kids and the choreography was excellent. The voices, when singing solo, weren’t striking to me and I thought they did a much better job with harmonizing and the pop portion of their music. Being a fan of rap music, I thought that portion of their performance was their weak point.

@sushiritto FWIW RM, the leader of the group and lead rapper of the group, has had English-language rap collaborations with Wale, Warren G and Fallout Boy in the past 3 years. I’m going to guess you’d probably like it. Check it out on YouTube. He also has the super fast rap, in Korean, with songs like Joke and the Cypher set of raps. And of course Nikki Minaj and Desiigner have had collaborations with BTS on 2 of their biggest songs, including the Mic Drop song that was done on SNL over the weekend.

Fallout Boy? OK, so this “collaboration” (turns out it’s a remix) caught my eye. I listened. RM has a small part. And meh. I tried. I’m sorry. If I have time, then I’ll listen to some more later. I’m always willing to listen to new music.

I belong to a small gym, if I’m the DJ this evening, I’ll Spotify BTS and play it over the gym’s speaker system. See what kind of reaction I get.

My understanding is that the Mic Drop song with the Desiigner remix is/was a regular play in the clubs for a good part of 2018, so chances are people will be familiar with that one. I’ve actually heard the Champion Fallout Boy/ RM remix at my health club quite a bit in the past.

Well, I’m potentially taking a huge hit to my music aficionado rep, if this experiment fails.

Hopefully, if I workout late enough, then I’ll be alone in the gym. As they say, “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it…”

@sushiritto BTS still falls more on the popular mainstream side of K music, but if you wanted more edgy rap stuff, you can look up songs by the AOMG crew Loco, Gray, Code Kunst, etc, or perhaps even the Korean-American Jessi. Consider songs like “We Are” and “Just Do It” by Gray and Loco. Or “Gucci” by Jessi. Or if you really want to go gangsta, then look at guys like Keith Ape.

They were adorable, whoever choreographed and costumed them did a great job, their footwork especially was really impressive. The music was standard pop product, perfectly enjoyable but nothing more. The group was obviously a cast.

I’ll be a lot more impressed if, 20 years from now, any of those kids turns out to be Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake, Ricky Martin, Robbie Rosa, Shawn Stockman, or Mark Wahlberg. Or even Harry Styles. I’m not betting on it.

I had to google to find out what in the world this thread was about, the only thing I actually recognized in the posts was probably the Beatles, and maybe a couple of more references.

@HeartofDixie haha that’s why you should take a look at that Penn State Sociology 119 Youtube video that I posted at the end of page 1. I wished all lecturers were like him.
