snooze you lose...airline tickets (part 2).

Take a look at this and then call them back. I think they assume most people don’t know the rules.

I read more of the posts and see that someone already posted this info.
Let us know if they refund your cc after you mention these rules.

“Even for domestic economy flights w no food & no free booze, the bar has fallen really low. As long as I don’t have a suicidal pilot, I’m good.”

I’m okay with suicidal, as long as they’re not also murderous and narcissistic. I also don’t want extremely tired, having a very bad day, or poor communication skills. As one of my favorite captains used to say, “Barring a steep left bank, you’re going to die at the same time as I am, so speak up if you see something you don’t like!” There’s a lot of things I want, I suppose, but then again free booze is awfully nice. Especially if you have a murderous, narcissistic, suicidal pilot.

Rivrbirch…the link states the problem for AA,so would not help in this case, but appreciated for other summaries.

.jym::good idea. We usually fly Delta, SW, and variety of others on our routes (very little AA)… If anyone wants a trade, PM welcome. (once we get the vouchers).

busdriver can you tell us what flights you are on so that we can be with you until the end  and expect free booze as we go down.
I would prefer a water landing…

Hey oregon101, no flights that I’m on will be going down. Not whether I’m working, or as a passenger. I have determined that my fate will be to die when I’m really, really old. With dogs wrapped around me, on the couch. With good wine in my stomach. You can sit on my couch and drink free booze at the end…but its going to be at least another 50 years, so you’re gonna have to wait awhile!

Gosh, you must me a whole bunch younger than me!
But if I am still around you and I have a plan.
Uh…just did the math…guess you are on your own.

Nah, not that young. Just plan on living way too long.

I thought airlines didn’t process the payment until 24 hours later. I used to be able to cancel with UA and on Expedia with 24 hours. Did you try calling your credit card? I also thought they didn’t allow you to have multiple reservations under one name. Their computer system didn’t catch that?

I think it takes awhile for the system to catch up. I’ve been double booked before, and they’ve seated me next to myself. Funny. Though those were refundable tickets, thankfully.

Re: “like it much more on Thai or other Asian airlines.”

Is it generally true that the plane used on an international flight tends to be more “modern” because of its higher profit margin to the airline company?

It seems recently there are more accidents on flights for some Asians airlines. For example, the Asiana flight 214 to San Francisco.

How likely would this kind of accident happen in a good weather?

The accident in SF on Asiana happened in good weather. Actually, the accident probably wouldn’t have happened if it was bad weather, then they couldn’t have been flying a visual approach, with no VASI or ILS. They would have been flying on instruments, probably an ILS approach, at which the pilot at the controls was more familiar with.

A number of reasons:

  1. Long distance routes require long-range planes which tend to be larger. You can stuff more “bells & whistles” on a bigger plane.
  2. competition. Airlines have to keep up w the Jones. In this case, the Jones are Singapore, Emirates, etc
  3. fuel efficiency. The newer planes have significantly higher fuel efficiency. This isn’t that big a deal on short hop flights, but really adds up for the long routes.
