Snow shoveling: where are all the teens?

I actually like shoveling snow.

I enjoyed reading this thread.

When my siblings and I were growing up, we all went out to shovel. Our dad used the snowblower and the kids did the clean up. Then we went next door to the empty lot where our dad built an ice skating/hockey rink each winter. We shoveled that so we could skate the rest of the day.

When our son was home, he helped his dad shovel. I helped occasionally. He went to school in Nashville and they have had more snow there than normal. He laughs at what they call a big snow. Luckily the neighbors on both sides of us have used their snowblowers to help us this year. I bake cookies and slip the 20-year-old cash. His mom won’t let him take money, so I tell him it’s a birthday gift. His birthday is in June…

My husband laughs at me because I have always called it “scooping snow.” Does anyone else scoop their sidewalks?

My teenage girls are inside doing their homework… but I won’t let them run the snowblower anyway. Our driveway is steep and often icy, so it can be dangerous.

The 17 year old boy down the street often comes around on their lawn tractor/plow and clears out everyone’s driveway and mailbox after the plow comes by. Sometimes he will do my whole driveway if I haven’t been out yet! I have never asked him to do it, he just does. :D

Everyone in my neighborhood either owns a snowblower or hires a plow. Most of us are hesitant to let a younger teen use the snowblower… they can be quite dangerous.

Both of my teens are off at college, anyway.
