So excited!

@drewsmom17 Have you checked out Charlotte? I was really rooting for DH to find something there. Very neat city and much lower COL. Also, one of the schools DS was applying to is only 30 minutes away. Unfortunately, DS really fell in love with and will be attending a school in Ohio. There was a slight chance we could also have ended up in Ohio, but that job wasn’t DH’s preference either. LOL

I think it will all work out. I hoped we would be closer, but at least he has extended family fairly nearby. My brothers, sisters, parents, and adult nephews are all within a few hours of where he will be going to college.

Brother lives in Hillsborough. SIL grew up in CH but when they moved there for her job they were priced out of a lot of CH and the schools were too intense for their kids. Hillsborough is in Orange County. About 15 min commute for B who works at UNC. It has become more popular as commuting area for CH and even Raleigh where SIL now works. Cute little town. Also have niece in same area on beautiful farm land on the Eno River

Welcome!!! We moved from CA to NC a decade plus ago and have loved every minute of it!! My kiddos were all high school age so having NC be our in-state for undergrad and grad school has been such a gift.

Son lived in Carrboro while attending UNC for his MD and MBA (grad 2 years ago). Great in-state tuition with a great school. Wake County schools are good. North Raleigh is also a very nice area, 27615.

Explore the area in your year of renting you will be happy you did.

Again WELCOME!!

My daughter and son-in-law live in Chapel Hill. He is a doctoral student at UNC. When we’ve visited, they took us to—Fearrington Villages. There are several restaurants there (we went to the Fearrington Inn) as well as entertainment venues, small shops (including a great book store) and gardens. We saw a blue grass band perform and another time went to hear a storyteller. It is a beautiful spot.

I think the average age of people in Fearrington is 70 plus. It was one of the first places I was interested in in NC, but I want someplace a little “younger.”

@ChaosParent23 yes! We went through Charlotte last year and it’s one of our top 3 locations. We are also open to Charleston or Columbia, with Greenville SC or Raleigh as options too.

Its so frustrating to wait and see! DS19 did also not choose to go close by. He’ll be in PA but near my brother.

Best wishes with your move! I think it’s so exciting to get to start fresh and explore a new location.

Well, we’re heeeeeere!!!
That drive was horrible & the weather kinda stinks, but we made it!!
We’re staying in Carrboro for now but we’re just down the street from Franklin St. We ate at Elmo’s Diner for dinner in the Carr Mill. We didn’t get to look around any of the other diners or shops b/c most things were closed by the time we were there. Elmo’s was great & we will be back. Super tiny, but breakfast all day & my kids inhaled their chocolate chip pancakes! I have 2/3 of an enormous chicken greek salad waiting for me for lunch. Woo Hoo!
And let me tell you, when they say CH/Carr skews young… I’ve never felt so old! HaHa It feels like everyone here is within a 5 year radius of S19’s age.

After dinner we stopped at the Harris Teeter, my kids were super excited to be back in the land of free dragon cookies and Boar’s Head lunch meat!

We will have to make the short drive up to the campus again b/c it was dark and raining. But what we could see, love it!! Little S especially loved the huge sundial.
Wish us luck!! Today we are looking at a couple houses to rent & I really really hope we get one of them. The sooner we have an address, the sooner we can request our stuff pulled from storage and sent here.

Congratulations!!! How long was your drive? Good luck with the house hunt today, hope you find a great rental!

Thankfully we took two days to make the 12+ hr drive from Louisiana. Hit some horrible weather on the way to Alabama & some bad accidents and construction in NC on the second day. Google maps says it’s 12 hours, but in reality it’s more like 14.

We found 3 great places. The one that I like the best needs a good scrubbing, but it was definitely big enough for us! Then again, it doesn’t have to be perfect since it’s only for a year.

We’ve also discovered that The Weaver St Market is a bit too crunchy for us. LOL DH got some pretty good drunken noodles there for lunch though!

That’s a long move. Did you find a place? I’m enjoying reading about your adventures in a new location!

We did!! Just signed a 1 yr lease last night on a pretty house in the northern part of CH. Really fantastic schools, and very convenient. It’s pretty close to the huge Homestead Park, so our 11 yr is tickled to death. My husband is calling up the military mover today to get our household goods released from storage. Who know how long it’ll take to actually make it here to us. Our last move, it took almost a month!

Yesterday we drove down to Apex. Cute little downtown! I will be back to check out the antique shops & the art galleries. There’s an ice cream place down there called Fresh Local Ice Cream. Really Really good ice cream!
We also explored UNC a little more. We went to the student bookstore & my youngest kitted out in Carolina Blue! HA!! My eldest didn’t want any swag since he’ll be a Lord (Kenyon) in the fall, but he wanted ALLLLL the books. It’s nice to be back to a place with great bookstores b/c people actually read!

I am In. Love. with Franklin St!! Carolina Coffee Shop gets 5 stars from me!! The I Love NY Pizza is a total dive, but NY style pizza by the slice??? Oh yes please!

My friend is a realtor in Charlotte. I have visited her there. It is lovely

I know this is kind of late but I still wanted to say congratulations! I hope you enjoy the place! Wishing you the best!
