So S.A.Ts......So Annoying

First off, keddy was right; it’s just SAT. (You wouldn’t say L.A.S.E.R. would you?)

It is largely about test-taking skills and speed skills, but the general trend is that those who are more “intelligent” (such an arbitrary word) have better skills on those areas. Of course, there are tons of anomalies.

The 1/4 point thing is to correct for random guessing (you have a certain # choices, 1/4 is the probability that you guessed when you got it wrong).

And 1850 is above the national average (which I think is in the 1500s).

Thank you Kyledavid80 for pointing the 1850 thing…i was waiting for someone with sense to back it up

&& teh whole docking points thing is still senseless to me; theres no point in penolizing for geussing. Just a heads up. Whatever S.A.T score you get, just know that you are smarter than your score says because docked points do not count

The whole acronym thing…I only said there were dots because I thought it had a meaning behind the letters

1850 is the 85th percentile compared to 2006 college-bound seniors. Last I checked, the 50th percentile would be average. 1850 is significantly above average. It may be “average” for CC, but in actuality it’s a good score.

So Authentic: well, if you are guessing, and you get it right, then that isn’t an accurate reflection of your abilities, is it? (This is simply in theory; I don’t think the SAT itself is an accurate measurement of one’s abilities.)

I love the way this thread started out, but I also love the way it has progressed :)

By the way, this is a bit off topic,

but I just thought it might be helpful for the OP to know, all the &&s and the dot dot dots aren’t exactly working to your advantage, I’m afraid. If you express yourself grammatically correct, I think it just might add a bit credibility to your argument.

To all you elitist idiots claiming his score is bad, last I checked 1850 is somewhere like 80-85th percentile. I scored like a 1970 or something with no studying yet that doesn’t make me feel good to wave my E - peen around, get a life.
And just to strengthen this point, I know a person receiving a FULL RIDE to Duke with an SAT score of 1890, his GPA was like 3.9UW but he had great recs, essays and good ECs. Bet half of you with your “good score” didn’t get that did you lol.

hyakku…I’m glad im not the only one that realized what these people are saying. …Jealousy “isn’t” a vritue

Kyledavid, yeah I know. geussing && getting it right shouldn’t count as smarts but hey! I “geuss” its luck to get it right

&& umm Nubie…I think you shouldn’t really worry about the &&s and dots. rather focus more on the substance of the thread because thats what counts. The progression of this thread is based solely on the people who have good judgement.

I honestly don’t care about what percentile it is, 1850 still is not a score that I would be bragging about.

No one is bragging or insisting on bragging. The person asked if I sucked at it and I said no, I got an 1850. Like come on, be serious, and then some people have the audacity to say it isn’t a good score.

i don’t care about percentile…1850 is nothing to “big whoop” about (unless your in middle school).

^^ what is so difficult to understand about percentiles and comparison? SAT scores aren’t viewed on an absolute scale, because that’s inherently arbitrary. They’re viewed comparatively, and ranking in the mid-80s is well above the average – comparatively. 300 points above the average would make it “good.”

I can’t stress that enough.

Who cares that he got an 1850. According to stats that’s above the national average. For all of you who are saying it’s nothing you either got a 2300 or trying to sound smarter than you are.

Besides SAT doesn’t affect you as much. My friend who is going to princeton (and got a scholarship) got a 1950. He too thought the test is pointless.

MstrLinks…whooaaaa…who cares that he got an 1850? are you really serious? we’re just trying to prove a point. I can care less about someone else’s SAT score just as Ditto’ed to the person but thats not the issue here. F*** OFF MY SAT score for crying out loud!

I dont like SAT or ACT. Im better at SAT but like ACT format better.

Actually So Authentic I was trying to back you up. Sorry. I said it because people kept going on and on about it. That’s all.

i still think you’re bitter because you can’t get a good score on it.

sigh
The test is just wracks my nerves. Just put it like that.

mstrlinks, your friend going to Princeton with a 1950 is either a URM, an athlete, or has a connection or something out of the ordinary about him. He probably thought the test was pointless because he didn’t need to do well on it to get in.

^ yes, I would have to agree.
