So smart...yet so dumb.....

“So smart…yet so dumb”…all those students who pay big money to attend elite colleges and then spend all that time getting wasted on alcohol and drugs.

“So smart…yet so dumb”…

Mom, what do I need to buy for the girl I’m having dinner with tonight?

This cartoon used to be on every psychology professor’s door at Harvard. Maybe it still is!

Re: The cartoon: I am a Harvard grad who does that all of the time…

I went to Spain after my junior year in HS and misspelled my name on all of my traveler’s checks.

Northstarmom,

My Mom is so smart . . . but she can’t seem to remember what she named me?

I have a story to tell on myself. I was filling out the SAT form for my son - he was in 8th grade, taking the test for CTY. He’d qualified in 7th grade, but wanted to improve his scores to improve his placement priority. He had not been able to get into Number Theory the year before. The evening before the exam, I could not remember exactly where he would be taking the test. I called the College Board (fortunately, they were still open). They could not find his registration. After quite a while, they found my registration. I’d registered myself to take the test.

When I applied to college I misspelled the name of the college EVERY time I wrote it on the application. I must have written it 50 times. 30 years later I have two degrees from said college.

Son just had to mail or fax a photocopy of driver’s license or birth certificate to prove dob to get his online/phone subject GRE score- he probably made a 9/4 look alike mistake when he took it. Anyone else have a child with microhandwriting? I rewrote his grocery list so I could read it quickly in the store his last trip home.

He also was 2 people for AP tests since he refused to use his SSN and didn’t use the same number each year- got it all together so school received all test results eventually.

That cat story was hilarious. I’m trying to imagine my cat doing something like that! Thanks for sharing.

"I was a National Merit Finalist… but I SPELLED MY NAME WRONG on the test.
Beat that. "

I will try!. D. went to numerous interviews to very selective programs. On one of them, she asked interviewer the meanning of a very common word when she was asked the question that she did not understand. After she told me what happened, I thought we would never hear from them. Guess where she is now? Go figure! Oh, the program had only 10 spots for incoming freshmen.

Child with microhandwriting? Check.

I can understand forgetting the middle initial. After child #4, I started getting a wee bit confused myself…

One of my kids was known for mispronouncing words that he’d only seen written, never heard. So he’d say something based on his Latin insight, and we’d all look at him like he was speaking Martian. My favorite was “sub-SEE-quently.”

My English teacher says that…
