Interesting observation, @iTransfer1. I always do go with the “everything for a reason.”
Taking both Calc. III and Diff. Eqs. was your mistake.
OMG! I also got rescinded for the Chemical Biology major. I found out on Friday and am waiting for Monday to contact the other schools. I also posted something (however in the wrong sub-forum).

Rescinded, what are your next steps? Let’s help one another out!
All you can do is plead.
You got some good information from the other thread. Historically both Merced and Riverside (and to a lesser case Santa Cruz) have opened up in this scenario.
I realize that the SIR deadline has passed, however, students are changing their plans/options at all of the schools, so I really would encourage the OP to contact those schools that accepted him and explain the situation and if my druthers are correct, I think both LA and especially Davis would lend a sympathetic ear.
UCB has rescinded my children’s acquaintances and they UCB don’t budge in their decisions. I don’t know why they do that; it seems so punitive.
A couple things to the OP:
- Yes, I think the punishment for getting a C is extremely harsh, especially given the strong course load you had.
- I would definitely drive back down to Berkeley and not rest until I've spoken to EVERYONE that can help you (I would talk to anyone who would listen down there from the dean to the janitor). But I also, wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket. Try contacting other schools (LA and Davis) and speak to everyone you can. Make sure you really communicate to them your story. I think it is compelling enough to change some peoples minds. Good luck I hope things work out!

Just wanted to thank you all for your advice and encouragement, and offer a quick update on my situation. Just received an email this morning notifying me of my readmission to Berkeley. For future reference, I was directed to a specific transfer advisor within the College of Chemistry who was receptive to my appeal and helped reverse the decision to rescind my admission. Looks like I’ll be at Berkeley in the fall!! Thanks again everyone, it really made a difference having people who supported my case.
Congrats!
I’m so happy for you! It was not a fair rescind and glad to see they acknowledged that.
On a side note, this is a perfect example of how a post can suddenly become fact. As you told me via pm and I mentioned here, it was a student on the phone in admissions who said you could not appeal. I saw at least three other places after this post where ppl said you were not allowed to appeal a rescind at Berkeley, they won’t accept them - and they cited the person from admissions who talked to you on the phone. It became a defacto rule.
CONGRATS! That’s huge!! Have fun at UCB this Fall, and maybe I’ll be joining you the following Fall
That is terrible advice @“aunt bea”
@lindyk8 @luckie1367 it seems that this is the year for reversal of decisions lol. But congratulations @rescinded!! I was just goingto tell you to stay persistent and NEVER give up because someone else tells you to. Things happen, but it does not mean you should just willingly accept them with open arms. So happy for you!!!
@franchman, this year’s been a roller coaster up here with rescinds. Last year was much less of an upheaval, as far as I can tell.
It is probably because the competition is getting extremely tough. @lindyk8
