So what's the catch?

Hello all…my first time posting. We live on the west coast, and S2 is a high school senior. He too feels that Elon is a perfect match in every way, and I do agree that it seems pretty ideal “on paper”. We have not visited yet, but he is applying EA, and also applying to one of the fellows programs. Our plan is to visit if he is accepted to Elon, on the fellows weekend if he is being considered for the program. We obviously live a great distance from No. Carolina, and do not have family or friends on the east coast. He has attended a national conference in No. Carolina the past two summers, and fell in love with the area and the people. I do have a couple of concerns, if anyone can help me. How is transportation to and from the airport? Do you feel like Thanksgiving break is long enough to comfortably make the trip to California and back? I also do not know much about the area. Are there doctors, dentists and the like in Elon, or would he need to go further? And would he be able to navigate that without a car?
Thank you in advance for any guidance you can give us. S1 is at a large university about 2 1/2 hours from home, with a car, so we haven’t encountered these issues.
