Sochi 2014

Thanks, gloworm. It will be a great flight, indeed, but it turns out that it will be later than expected as the team made the decision to march in the closing ceremonies with the rest of the Canadian team, so they’re seeing the closing ceremonies after all.

I’m glad the Canadian hockey players decided to march in the closing ceremonies.

It’ll be interesting to see if NHL players are allowed to play in the next Olympics. As far as I can tell, the players want to play. Fans want the players to play. Owners don’t get any money from NHL players playing in the Olympics, so they oppose it. We’ll see what owners and players manage to negotiate.

Disappointed in closing ceremony broadcast. They cut many things I had been reading about and the camera work during the ballet was wretched.

Wonderful story on our local news. Local 10 year boy was flown to Sochi with his family by the make a wish foundation to meet Shaun white. He beamed talking about meeting his ‘hero’. White spent time with the family, not just a photo op. Then after his events, White sent his snowboard to the young cancer victim. I felt bad for White with how his Olympics went, but he was his sport’s pioneer for sure. This was a heartwarming story, and I do hope Shaun White is back in four years amazing us once again.

Sochi Overall: 6.5/10

USA’s horrible results (all of speed skating, Shaun White) are the main detractors to the score. NBC’s coverage also helped, as did the time difference. I enjoyed both ceremonies though.

LOL - the Russians poked fun at themselves by incorporating the snowflake that failed to open into the closing show. Clever!

Enjoyed both ceremonies despite NBC doing everything possible to spoil the moment.
