My D24 felt the same way and chose not to apply. It seemed really perfect for her on paper but she wouldn’t do it.
She has a friend who went for a year and was on the dance team but ended up transferring after freshman year because it just didn’t have the sense of community she was looking for.
On a more positive note to consider since you are interested in the dance team…they competes at NDA nationals and often do well. It’s coming up next week April 11-13. You can watch them online at varsity.com (you have to buy a one month subscription to watch).
Hi, thank you for sharing. We went back a second time to get a better sense of the school vibe and decided it is not for me. There was no sense of school spirit like at all. we’ve toured a bunch of schools so far, including on weekends, and the bookstore was always open, but not at AU – and what we could see through the window, it seemed like there was limited swag. I’m definitely excited to be at a school with an engaged population, but I want school spirit -the anti-Greek movement, and the general energy on campus (All the coffee shops were closed on the weekend… Couldn’t find where students congregate, despite spending several hours there outside of the tour) it’s just not for me. But, you’re right, their dance team looks amazing .
I hope your daughter found the right fit school for her
AU’s bookstore is open on Saturdays from 11am-30pm. It is closed on Sundays.
The student run coffee shops are closed on Saturdays because they are staffed by students. They are open on Sundays. The campus Starbucks is open seven days a week.
Yeah, thanks, I should have clarified. I meant the coffee houses where students might hang out not just grab a coffee-- they were closed when we were there. We saw two other schools on Sat and Sun and AU’s was the only one whose bookstore was closed. I think its a great school and obviously a super good fit for some, but if youre looking for school spirit, we didn’t find any, not just compared to big state schools (toured UVA today) but compared to the other urban schools in DC.
