Social life at SCU

LMU and SCU are both great schools. I have friends at LMU and have only heard good things and I’m sure she’ll be happy at either one. I will say that SCU is definitely more laid back than LMU and we have a different club/social scene. Definitely fewer alternative students here at SCU, our crowd skews more “mainstream,” for lack of a better term. Very impressive pull on the merit aid, SCU doesn’t normally hand out amounts that high!

Its interesting to hear you guys bring up the mainstream vs alternative. My D24 is considering accepting SCU and that was my concern. She likes all kinds of cloths and music, but I would not consider her mainstream. She can go from wearing an off wite sweater with lavendar mini skirt and soft makeup to an all black lace dress and emo makeup. Music - she like Taylor, and the Cure, and goes to 90s alt music concerts like Green Day. She likes comicon places and board game nights and isnt a drinker. She is just fun and qurky and definitely into helping the community and is driven to helping people. I hope she fits in if she chooses SCU.

She will definitely fit in at SCU. One of the virtues of being a smaller school is that there is less of a clique situation between different social groups as everybody runs in similar spaces. Students here also tend to just be more accepting. I definitely have some “nerdier” interests myself (Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy books and movies, heavy metal) alongside my very mainstream ones and the worst I’ve ever gotten is light teasing from some of the guys in my fraternity which I give back just as much. Most people I’ve spoken to and know have very similar experiences, so I would not worry too much. She will find her group and it may be a very different group than you or her expects going in.
