Social Prestiege

etondad, no offense, but that is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard!

Take a look at this.
[William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition - Wikipedia”>William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition - Wikipedia)

Historically, Duke has placed in the top 5 12 times. Chicago has placed in the top 5 11 times, and Penn has placed in the top 5 thrice.

Williams isn’t on the list.

Since 1990, Duke has had 12 top 5 finishes (good enough for 4th in the nation). Chicago has had 2, and Williams (you guessed it) is not on the list!

I don’t mean to be rude, but maybe if you fact checked before typing, you could avoid embarrassing situations like the one you currently find yourself in!

curvy: given that the bulk of your posts speak about rankings and prestige and perceived hierarchies about these elite schools – and you’re only a HS student, maybe attend one of these or like Etondad, attend one and send kids to them as well. Do that plz before being so authoritative and snooty about X > Y. That whole line of discussion is banal.

Oh brother, a ‘curvyteen’ giving a condescending explanation about the superiority of one college over another. Here’s a thought; actually spend some time in college before pontificating on the merits of one school vs another.

Or better yet, gain another 30 years of experience at a variety of top colleges as both a student and a parent before deigning to grace us with your wisdom.

I agree with those who realize seeking prestige only is so shallow. My son really thought that one of the Ivies was going to be the place for him. And of course the family (specifically his Indian grandparents) would have loved to brag about it. However, in the end I think he realized that the 4 Ivies he applied to were not as good a fit for him as the school he eventually accepted an offer from- WUSTL. Neither he nor my wife or I get upset when people ask us why we wants to move to Seattle.
