Social Scene and more questions

What people are saying about the party scene isn’t that there aren’t parties freshman can get in to. There are. There are lots of them. There are parties everywhere (try walking down hemenway or columbus 12:30 on a friday).

The problem with parties in boston is that we all live in small apartments, that can only fit so many people, so it’s hard to have big open house parties where everyone can just come inside. Generally, people just invite their good friends, who bring friends with them… and that fills up the apartment. So, when you’re a freshman and you don’t know any upperclassmen, you aren’t going to be able to just walk around and walk into a huge party.

What happens is that you make lots of friends who are freshmen. Some of them are going to have older friends who they know from home, clubs, sports, classes, etc. They take you to parties. You make older friends. They invite you to parties.

You also have the option of just hanging out with other freshmen in the dorms, which can be a lot of fun if your RA is cool or not really around. I had parties to go to as a freshman, because I played a sport and had older friends, but I also had a lot of fun partying with my dorm friends.

If you’re the kind of person who wants to party/is social/likes making friends, you’ll be just fine. You just can’t sit in your dorm waiting for a party to magically appear across the street, with doors wide open and beer balls flowing freely.

So, since this keeps getting asked: THERE ARE PARTIES AT NORTHEASTERN.
