No!!! Worse than my bf’s weird socks with running shoes!

In 1986, my brother (finally) got married. His new in-laws showed up at a pre-wedding party in birkies and nice REI patterned socks. I hadn’t seen the look since I was about 12, but now I realize that it’s the Seattle look that has been in style for 50 years.

By all means, wear whatever is comfortable for your feet or your sense of fashion! Each to her or his own.

My dad wears white socks with brown walking shoes and shorts. My girls giggle when they see him in the summer.

I say go for comfort. Having said that, most sandals are made to be worn with bare feet. Also, we would be droping like flies down here if we worn socks with our sandals, it’s just too hot!

Haha–socks w/ birks have had so many connotations through the years–

–dorky, dowdy, granola, vegetarian or vegan, intellectual or wanna-be intellectual, non-materialistic, liberal, European, women who do not shave legs or armpits, professors or people who work for colleges in the library.

I may have been, or still are, guilty of some of these things. lol

Any others to add?

Welcome to Seattle!!! ROFL!

Go to Youtube and look up “Sandals and socks guy” -
:)

My H was raised in Berkeley during the 70s and he insists on socks with all sandals. I was raised in the Midwest during the 80s, and I won’t wear socks with anything. Maybe it is an age thing. After all didn’t everyone my age wear penny loafers and top siders without socks?

I think Birks and socks are fine, quirky in a kind of a cute hippie way, but if my daughter were dating someone wearing Birks and socks I think I might be a bit worried… (Is he channeling 1975?)

Love Birkies, but no socks. No one around here sports that look. In summer it is usually no socks with sneakers, loafers, top siders.

When I see someone wearing socks with Birkenstocks all I can think is that they’ve just completely given up.

Sorry…no point in covering the gray either once you’ve crossed that line.

my European husband wears socks with his birkenstocks, but not me. I belong to the socks with sandals is a dorky tourist thing , mindset ![]()
I have worn birkenstocks for several years…best sandals ever if you work like I do and the ONLY sandals my husband can wear with his problem feet

I love, love, love my birkenstocks! Especially my waterproof sandals!

NEVER wear socks with ANY sandals!!! NEVER!

Oldest D was about 10 and we had just relocated. She needed a sports physical and we went off to the new pediatrician. After the appointment she turns to me and says “That man is clearly a moron.” I was stunned. I really liked him and the way he treated her. I asked her why and she says “Did you see his feet?! He was wearing socks with his Birkenstocks!!”
