<p>Most people working in the technical side of the computer industry have computer science degrees.</p>
<p>At schools which offer both computer science and software engineering majors, the difference is that the latter includes more software engineering methods courses beyond the initial overview course commonly taken by both majors. It is likely that the schedule space is better used for additional computer science topics courses (operating systems, algorithms, databases, networks, security, etc.) that computer science majors take but software engineering majors take fewer of.</p>
<p>However, at some schools, the software engineering major is not as well known and thus less selective because fewer people apply to it. San Jose State is an example:
