when is she flying home? another Sunday into Monday storm is forecasted.
She leaves Sunday afternoon - I think 2 or 3 - crossing fingers that’s early enough!!!
She made it! And she’s feeling a great sense of accomplishment tonight!
She said she shared a couple of funny stories with my bro and family at dinner tonight. When she arrived at Penn Station she knew she was to look for line A or C. She got off the train and looked up - all the choices were numbers! Uh oh!!! haha - she figured it out though and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.
What she couldn’t believe - ALL THE PEOPLE - of course it was rush hour, but wow, she could not believe how many people!
Guess she is feeling pretty comfortable though - tomorrow she is venturing out to the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Saturday she’ll be entertained by family.
I did pass on some of your suggestions and the most valuable one was that there are TWO Penn stations - who would have thought! Thanks again.
That’s great! And there is a sense of accomplishment when you successfully navigate something a bit tricky such as train schedules.
I think personally its a bit of a cop out when people travel to NYC or Chicago and don’t even try to figure out public transportation. I have a relative who goes to NYC a couple of times a year and will only take cabs. I don’t get it and I’m cheap so I wouldn’t take cabs everywhere but that’s not something they think about.
Glad she got there and she will love the museum. It’s amazing!
Definitely a cab for the first time from Penn. All cabs have to take Brooklyn now, and it’s not that big a deal. Download the Hopstop app, too. You plug in the destination and it will take you through which subway step by step AND give you a taxi estimate.
Also with UBER now, you don’t have to hail a taxi in rush hour. You just order an uber taxi, like a car service except it’s as cheap as a cab. (Download that app, too.)
Uber is privately owned vehicles that provide taxi service. One of my kids uses it in another city, but even he says…not in NYC. He wouldn’t do it.
@Garamond did you read the whole thread? This kiddo has gotten where she needs to be. And hopstop was also recommended.
So glad she had a good experience, and that someone pointed out the two Penn Stations (I was thinking it, too, but didn’t get the message in beforehand.) It’s so normal to us here, but honestly, how many people must get confused by that from elsewhere?
