Son nearly arrested while trying to meet with a rep!

pizzagirl:

Your S remained calm, which in itself was a good thing to do. If he is really interested in this school, maybe he can follow up with some sort of cover letter to the school, making a joke that he’s glad the security is so tight!

*I doubt the dean particularly cares about what some student from a suburb 30 minutes away thinks. *

Really? That is quite sad.

I know of at least 2 deans at my kids’ school who would be bothered to learn that a prospective student had been treated that way…even if it was because of the dean’s own oversight. Many profs and deans at schools today are much more concerned about students and less “ivory tower” than when we went to school.

mom2collegekids - the dean is the dean at a DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL 30 minutes away from ours. Not the dean of the college for which S was interviewing. S isn’t a “prospective student” at the other high school; he’s a random visitor.

Everyone chill – it’s an amusing story, I put it in for the sake of amusement, and I’ve never said that the guard did anything wrong for investigating an “unknown” student or owes my son an apology.

It is amusing…and actually I would give Kudos to the guard for doing his job. We recently had a bad incident in our tiny little elementary school district. It’s so small we don’t have security guards and pretty much anybody can be anywhere on campus.

I don’t know about the school that the OP’s son was visiting. But our kids’ HS has a big sign at the entrance saying that all visitors please report to the front desk. And visitors are required to wear a pass.

Yes, all the schools around here from elementary on up have similar signs at the entrance. As I explained above, coolweather, we inadvertently dropped him off at a SIDE ENTRANCE (which had no such sign) and S was trying to figure out how to get to the main lobby area so he could figure out where he was to go when he was met by the security guard.

Parenthetically, our high school is the same way. The entrance off a main street (that unfamiliar visitors would see / use) is really a side entrance and the main entrance is actually tucked onto a small side street.

second the notion of thank you note to rep reminding her of his determination to attend the meeting - it will stick in her mind in a posistive way and teach your s to write those thank you followups…good luck to your son!

This is S speaking, but on D’s account.
Nice to know that you’ve been taking a little creative freedom here. I’m not 5"9 nor am I a wirely little boy. It was not as dramatic as you say it was. The security guard was not yelling; he was calm. And it did not take HALF AN HOUR, more like 7 minutes! Also, I was not late- i was the first person there!
Check the facts first, like you always tell me to.
Your S, “S”

Aww… don’t ruin it for us poor parents! …

Re: Post #28…

LOL !!! :D

I’d like to add a hug for Pizzagirl under the circumstances…with regard to post #28.

{{{Pizzagirl}}}

Note to self–never let “kids” know what you are posting here…

B U S T E D!!! (our kids never agree with our version of things)

Thank God my kids don’t read CC! Ha ha!

“Pizzabite” or “Pizzabit” . S needs a nickname if he’s going to chime in. :)
