From what I read, a lot of the cyber theft occurred when the hackers stole the credentials of a senior ops guy which allowed them into his system, where the Sony employee had very cleverly hidden his passwords under a file named -wait for it - “passwords”.

Haven’t read this whole thread but anyone interested in actually learning about North Korea in a fictionalized way might want to read “The Orphan Master’s Son” by Adam Johnson. I wouldn’t call it one of the best books I’ve ever read but it did win the Pulitzer Prize and handled its subject pretty sensitively.

Considering the general quality of Sony PCs…including notebooks, all I can say is…it figures.

I watched The Interview. Hilarious and truly awful. Very sophomoric humor. It was only bcs of the hack & hype that I even bothered, as teenage boy humor not a genre that I find appealing. If the NKoreans had done nothing, I imagine this film would have just died an obscure death.

I didn’t see the film as racist; white Americans are portrayed as buffoons too (hats off to Eminem for poking fun at himself, lol). As far as the issue of appropriateness of portraying a sitting world leader goes, I imagine that if obama was lampooned like this he would have laughed his head off. The bottom line is that people w legitimate power aren’t defensive about their dignity.

I also watched the flick in the spirit of free speech and in support of general silliness. I totally agree with @GMTplus7 . Take that NK hackers!

I may actually watch it tonight. One thing I always appreciate is a politician with a sense of humor and a healthy respect for freedom of speech.

This was a small triumph for democracy over the rantings of totalitarianism. Here’s a big oof-dah to North Korea. Joe Strummer’s and the Clash’s lyrics are appropriate here;

Yup, I saw it. It was funny and silly. Glad I had a blanket handy to hide under during all the sex jokes, etc. while watching with my HS/college boys!

I also watched it w highschool aged boys. It was so silly that the sex jokes elicited groans rather than embarassed cringes.

We watched it for the principle of the thing. It started off somewhat amusingly, but really, really ran out of steam. Terrible movie.

I didn’t see it, but my H and kids did. They thought it was a typical, dumb, vulgar-but-amusing-if-you’re-in-that-mood type of movie. No extra security or anything - just a typical movie theater and crowd.

I watched it on Christmas Eve with my H and two sons – 23 and 27. It was just dumb, vulgar but amusing as referenced above. I particularly thought that the Seal Team 6 reference was very funny. Not a movie I would have chosen to watch but for the principle of the thing.
