Sororities @ Cornell

red08cu is absultely right. the greek system has plenty of attractive girls.

i was wondering how easy it is for an asian to join a non-asian sorority? i’m interested in joining one but i don’t want to be in an asian-based interest one

It really depends on what you’re like. If you’re social you probably won’t have a problem.

That’s a strange question. Of course you will be able to join any type of sorority that you would like…

Not if they don’t want you, figgy.

But it won’t be because the person is a certain race…

Yeah, that should have nothing to do with it. Key word being should…

vavavoom - I’m an asian girl in a latin sorority, and I have a filipina friend in a black sorority. My roommate freshman year (she’s korean) is in AXO (one of the mainstream ones), so race really doesn’t necessitate anything. Just do what you are comfortable with not what is expected.

I’m in AXO, who’s your roomate?

if you rush, you get into a sorority

Back on the forums Spanks? Even after you made me change your password? Addictions die hard I guess.

die :)

what an ancient ridiculous thread

vavavoom,

You’ll find that the Panhel sororities are predominately white. This is in large part due to the low number of minority women that complete rush. They may be interested in MGLC sororities, may drop out of Panhel’s recruitment process because they dislike their options (along with many white girls), or may simply not be interested in the Greek scene. It doesn’t matter. All you have to do is sign up and complete Formal Membership Recruitment, as you are at that point practically guaranteed a spot in a sorority’s new member class.

Be friendly, be open, be yourself. Don’t be crushed if a house cuts you - they weren’t right for you anyway - and don’t think it’s because you’re Asian. Your race will never be the reason you are cut.

be worry of advice u recieve from these forums, bc in the last post there is misinformation

what about AXiD?

abike,
What in my post would you call misinformation?

so no one said anything about the reps of the frats yet

Too many frats. If somebody wants to comment, I’d suggest making a new topic.

there are asian girls in pretty much every sorority. there are good and bad looking girls in every house too. if you are a girl and rush you will be pretty mcuh guaranteed a spot at a house, but i know girls that ended up not joining because they didnt get the bid at the house they wanted. the stereotypes said above are really true, but i have a ton of friends in all the “btchy” sororities and in the “overlyjappy” sororities and the girls are really nice. you’ll see during rush that certain houses suit certain peoples personalities and like better than others.

for frats, its a bit too hard to comment. there are like 45 frats and many stereotypes for those. there are the preppy frats, practically sport specific frats, just jocky frats, more academic frats, party frats, jappy frats. go to a ton of parties all fall and youll learn the stereotypes/meet the people like you eventually. dont be swayed by a house just because you hear it is the best or anything. in frat rush you arent guaranteed a bid, and you dont see every house during rush week like the girls. instead you choose the houses you like, so if you go to a house just because you think its cool, but dont fit in you may not get any bid. that being said, most people realize this and find the ones they like. also, i didnt join the same house as 2 of my best friends and we worrieda bout it a lot, but it ended up being really good. while we were best friends we different interests in houses. personally i could have fit in at a bunch of different types of frats, and im still glad i went for the one i wanted instead of joining one with my best friend that i would still be pretty happy at.

feel free to start a thread about frat stereotypes, id prob comment and im sure a ton of other people would too. its good to know, but it may be better to wait an see at school since there are so many, and you dont want to limit down already.
