southeast vacation

LOVE Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms. My dad has a shared ownership there, in Shipwatch (next to Mariners Walk). So convenient - easy drive into Charleston for touring, then back to IOP for beach, golf, bike riding, etc.

Thank you everyone for the help on this thread. We are back from our trip and had a wonderful time.
Flew into Savannah. Had 1 1/2 days there. Had our first taste of BBQ at Blowin Smoke. Best baby back ribs H has had in a long time. I had the pulled pork sandwich. Did a trolley tour, walked a ton and visited the Telfair Museum.
Drove to Charleston via Beaufort. Drove through the town and loved the old houses, picked up sandwiches and went out to Hunting Island State Park. It was hot but nice to see a southern beach.
In Charleston we stayed at the French Quarter Inn. Great place. Ate at Jim and Nicks BBQ and at Poogans Porch. Loved Charleston. Visited Magnolia plantation on our way up to Asheville.
Got H to try a B & B in Asheville. We could walk to downtown. We had 4 nights here which was not too much. Thought the Biltmore would be hocky but was pleasantly surprised. I loved the gardens. We did drives both ways on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The leaves were amazing. We tried getting into Tupelo Honey on both Wed and Thur nights. Both nights over an hour wait. Nothing is worth waiting an hour. We ate at the Lexington Brewing Company- food was good. Jerusulem Garden Cafe, Luellas and the Asheville Brewing Company. All good. Great sandwich wraps from Greenlife grocery.
Being me we also took a drive out to look at Warren Wilson College. S had applied here several years back but we had not visited. With a HS Jr we thought we would take a look. Very interesting school. Beautiful and interesting place for the right student. I think my S would have loved it. I don’t think it is the place for kiddo number 3.
Don’t know if we will get back to this area of the country again but I am thrilled that we went. Loved Charleston and Asheville. Liked Savannah but don’t have a burning desire to go again.
Made H try BBQ at three places. My H is pretty healthy but was a good sport. I had BBQ pulled pork at all three places. All were different. H tried fried pickles, fried okra, collard greens. He also tried the mac and cheese at several places but did not understand why it was so popular.

Trip sounds wonderful; I’m glad it was a success.

Wow! What a great trip!! I have never been to many of the places you visited! I am going to review your itinerary with my husband!

Glad to hear you had a good trip! I’m happy to know the leaves were colorful for you. I was driving down the eastern edge of the mountains in Virginia and North Carolina yesterday and saw the tree weren’t very colorful yet. I was thinking we had lead you astray, so I’m glad they were colorful at the higher elevations.

BUanBC- the leaves were amazing south on the parkway from Asheville. Graveyard Fields was in full color.

OMG… fried okra… drool
