In other words, recent changes have changed your preference regarding Southwest from neutral to negative.

I don’t recall tbh. For some reason I think they found some excuse not to.
The recent changes being mostly ticket price and service related, yes. I don’t mind paying for seats like I do on other airlines, though it’s obviously a tip in favor of the loyalty program where I get free seat choice.
We were never Southwest flyers as they didn’t fly out of our airport. A few years ago Southwest started flying from the city my daughter lives into to our small local airport. My daughter and her family have been super happy with the service. They also have made the flight times to be perfect. They can get to out city on Friday at 9 am. The flight home is at 6:30 pm. They end up with two extra full days over driving. I’ll cry if they ever discontinue the flight.

Today, after 16 years of having a SW credit card, I called to cancel it. The annual fee went to $229 and I didn’t think that was worth it. The very polite person (compared to the one I talked to in Dec when they sent me the increase notice) said she could help me do that. She started the cancellation and then came on to say they were offering me a credit of $229 if I kept the card.
Well sure, I can keep it for free for another year. And I’ll take my annual mileage reward. I’m not even sure what the other rewards are (except the free checked bag) and I’ll take those too.

Don’t love the new Southwest but if you are a frequent flyer, until others catch on, you can snag a premium, lots of legroom seat and also a bag of pistachios -which I keep for a night time snack. I’m looking for positives 
And the stock price is way up as are revenues. I’m a shareholder so it makes’e happy.
Apparently, in overall volume, those who say they will dump Southwest - haven’t.
Interestingly, I am going on a holiday cruise and booked a flight from Huntsville, about 100 mins south of me, on Breeze, for less than a third of any other airline from Nashville - and coming home on Delta. I’m going on vaca in July and using SW on two of the three routes but Frontier on the third route.
So I am mixing it up but the airline itself is prospering, for now anyway.

I used to be able to fly southwest from Bradley to BWI for a decent price. It’s a one hour direct flight.
I just checked…I can fly Avelo out of New Haven for $150 round trip. The SW cost is double that or more no matter what dates I choose.
It’s only 15 minutes longer drive for me to New Haven.
But on Avelo you have to pay for a carry on. And if the flight is cancelled, then what ?
But yes, there are definitely some better deals.
I just changed a $99 SW fare to $55 on their sale (55th birthday). The issue though is I have 6 months to spend the $44. In the old days it didn’t expire. So if I don’t spend it then it cost me $99.
I was told by SW agent to just call them and that they’ll extend the credit.

Side note: a friend just told me there were pistachios on their flight. I thought it was so odd - tree nuts are expensive (but maybe not in SW kind of volume) and there are people super allergic to them.

Only for people in like the first 5 rows - the $70+ seats. But if you are A List, then two days b4 you can grab one for free. It’s silly - a $1 bag - but whatever makes you happy. I’m seeking positives. They have the green (regular salted) and yellow - honey roasted - no bueno.
And you still get the yucky pretzels too. Mainly I get off the plane early - that’s a great benefit and more legroom - but I still prefer the old, personally.
I called in Dec (as instructed to do) and the agent asked if I wanted to keep my card until the renewal day, July 1. I said yes as I had a flight in Feb and I wanted the free bag. So I just called to cancel and they asked if I wanted it free for another year. I said yes.
I have a feeling this won’t happen again but another year is another year. Here I was feeling special and now find out they are doing it for everyone? Guess I’m not so special.
It will. They gave me a $70 credit to cover the $69 last year and $100 this year. I turned it down bcuz I’ll want to apply for the card again.

Fwiw I’m one of those super allergic to pistachios- worst out of any tree nut reaction.
When SW is more expensive than United or American- no way. I’ve ended up getting an American card. Will find out at end of year 1 if it’s worth it but have already saved the annual cost in bag fees.
I was happy they waived the fee. I don’t need that card but it has a very large limit on it and I’ve had it since 2010 so helps my credit rating. I’ll get my annual miles bonus which may be enough to get me to a free one-way trip and of course my free bag.
I’ve been going to visit a friend on Hilton head Island for years, taking SW to Savannah which involves changing planes in Dallas, Houston (ugh), Nashville or Baltimore and adding time (and lost luggage- still wearing my ‘SW Wardrobe’ from 3 years ago) to my trip. Turns out United has a non-stop! Yes, costs more but saves me hours and hours and much better times to depart and arrive. Who knew? (not me) so this July I’ll fly in luxury directly to my vacation.

United. Even worse - on the basic fare. No carry on for a legacy airline.
I would hope, on any airline, if someone has a nut allergy, they can inform and the plane wouldn’t serve.
With the credit card I get a carry on, a checked bag and get to pick a seat at the time of registration. Same as the SW card.

Tomorrow I’ll be flying SW for the first time since the changes. I have to say I was thrilled to get a text 48 hours out saying that as a cc holder I could log in and pick my seats if I wanted. I picked a window and aisle toward the back, which is how/where we always sit and didn’t pay extra. I figured if someone books the seat between us, dh will just move to the middle and offer up the window seat. We are in group 5.
I am a person who was fine with all the old quirks. One that I’ll miss … checking out who you want/don’t want to sit next to! lol Now you go to your assigned seat and that’s that.

I flew Southwest on Monday. A woman who clearly should have been required to buy two seats was seated in the middle seat next to me. That meant I had to lean into the aisle for 2 hours sort of sitting on one leg only. This woman’s enormous thighs and arms took up half of my seat. I have written to Southwest to complain.
What is their policy on this? Did they announce the rule but don’t enforce it?
