Went to one. Left after the first fight. Too gory for me, but I’m glad to have had the experience. Enjoyed the flamenco so much more!
Not simply “no,” but HELL no.
I guess I’m shocked that anyone would go in this day and age. It is cruelty to animals to the extreme. The animals do experience pain and death is not always quick. I’m not sure how this does not qualify as torture.
OP, I’m curious, would you go to a dogfighting event? If not, what’s the difference?
Just read this simple and factual account and decide whether this is something you want to participate in or support with your dollars:
I’ve been to about 5 in Spain and thought they were amazing. Animals get killed every day with no dignity or glory . At least the bulls go out with a little fanfare.
Eh, you’re right. Humans are killed every day with no dignity or glory so why should murder and manslaughter be a crime?
As someone who works in animal rescue, people who find entertainment in the suffering and deaths of other living beings make me sick.
romangypsyeyes: Thank you for rescuing animals. It is God’s work. Except for 1 dog we have had rescues…one OES and the rest goldens. One of our rescues is sleeping next to me. She was found, near death, in the desert. Thank you.
And despite your dubious choice of hockey teams…next year Kings!..I’m still cheering for my Kings
bevhills, and thank you for adopting them. Without adopters, our work would be nearly in vain. The pup in my picture was one of our rescues from a dog fighting ring. She was the bait dog. She is my baby.
Fanfare?! Really? Because that makes it better??? It’s killing an animal for human amusement, and it’s wrong.
Lizard, never heard of the whizzing in seat thing in Spain. The bulls are butchered for food after the bullfight, so the parallel to dog fights and people killing are invalid.
Don’t look at it as killing for amusement; look at it as killing for food where the animal has a chance of killing one of the workers.
Except it’s not a quick or painless death. What a horrible way for an animal to die for people’s amusement.
Oh, so if we EAT the dogs and people, then it’d be all good?
It’s irrelevant how you “look” at it- you are paying to watch an animal be tortured and killed. It’s irrelevant what happens afterwards.
^^^THIS.
It is most definitely NOT killing for food- it IS killing for pure amusement and as a second thought they use the slaughtered animal for food. The animals suffer greatly before they finally die. How anyone could go watch and not be sickened is beyond me.
As an alternative, in Barcelona at the Plaça D’Espanya you can visit Las Arenas, a beautiful former bullring now transformed into a shopping mall. We didn’t shop there, but the rooftop terrace has gorgeous (free) 360-degree views, and restaurants. The view is especially lovely at sunset when there is a Magic Fountain show (though that’s even better close up).

I wouldn’t ever consider going to a bullfight any more than I would go to a dog fight or a cockfight. The fact that bullfighting is still legal in certain countries doesn’t make it any less cruel and unacceptable. I don’t care for boxing and ultimate fighting either, but at least the humans involved are choosing to do it. The animals are not.

I wonder why there is no boxing thread yet?
unlike!
