Spending freeze February

I was hypnotized by Matt Damon’s blue eyes and ordered two Stella Artois chalices during the super bowl last weekend. They (part of the price) supposedly pay for clean water for five years for two people. They will be a housewarming gift, but it was impulsive.

I haven’t left the house nor let anyone with blue eyes trick me since last Sunday.

Glad to see I’m not alone but, really, this thread has been an inspiration. My downfall is my laptop and online shopping so, staying away from certain websites has required restraint. And I do miss them! Still, keeping busy with other things…happy, non-shopping Sunday to all!

I have done no mindless shopping. I can only do online right now, so I guess it’s not as fair since I’m not tempted when I’m out and about. I’ve also been eating all leftovers and trying to use everything I have in cabinets to make a meal.

I made a huge pot of hearty soup today out of things I had in the freezer, fridge and cabinets. I think I’ll do this once every week.

The only thing I’ve purchased, except food, is a set of batteries for our portable phones. They aren’t dead yet, but lose a charge mid-call, so I decided it was a replacement, rather than a want! We’re talking about a quick trip mid-March so I’ve been perusing airline sites but that’s been about the only online shopping so far this month. it feels really good to just delete all the retail emails.

Went to the mall today to return a few things, and came back with nothing, even though I have credits with both Lululemon and Athleta.

So glad to hear how well everyone is doing! Amazing how one little thing helps.

My intention is not to stop spending, but to think about what we are spending our money on. And everyone is such an inspiration to me and to everyone here.

I’ve been really good, I’ve cut back my spending and have not bought anything other than food and such. I mean household goods.

If I find a good deal on a pair of ski pants, I might break down and buy a pair. It’s hard to find a pair that I like so if I happen to come across a pair, I will break down. They are pretty specialized and now would be the time to find a pair. I haven’t even been tempted by anything else.

My H is not on a spending freeze and I don’t count anything he buys or anything he would ask me to buy for him a part of this. He’s been buying stuff he wants, but he’s very good at buying only what he needs.

Haven’t bought anything I couldn’t eat or drink all month (except for repair to my car, and fuel for said car.) – so far.

I made another Target run for basics and was able to stick to my list. I did rummage thru the clearance make-up before shaking myself and walking away, thinking “Not on the list. Nothing you need.”

I’ve been deleting marketing emails without opening them. Old Navy is sending something nearly every day.

I found myself checking my Saved Search on eBay and that was playing with fire. Got thru it!

Staying the course! Just pausing to think about the need for a purchase has really been a help. I also made a nice pot of soup from items in the freezer, fridge and pantry.

Agree this has been very helpful in pausing me to think if I realllllyyy need to make a purchase. I too, did an inventory of all the food I have…and my instapot dinner (thanks @abasket) truly was in my kitchen today–no need to go to the store.
Realized that if I pick up milk, bananas and romaine, I don’t anything else as I have all the fixings for 5 meals this week.

@psychmomma You didn’t buy glasses, you made a donation for clean water and the glasses were free!!!

I bought “The Dry” today for the next book club selection. I think that counts as a need.

Well, I got a postcard from Land’s End giving me 40% off my entire purchase. I browsed. I closed the window.

@VeryHappy With Land’s End, they constantly run sales. I promise you that should you want something from them in the future, you’ll certainly encounter more 40% off sales.

I sent out a couple of care packages and instead of buying new stuff, I shopped my closet. Sent one kid gently worn stuff lol! With a couple of samples and some stuff in the other package that I have around for random gifts. Didn’t cost me anything but postage.

I will likely be buying new workout shoes this month, and I’m Ok with that purchase, I may wait until March, but only because I’d rather get them from the store than order online, and I don’t have time to get to the store.

I fell off the wagon today. I have a set of Franciscan Apple dinnerware that I love…but I only had 6 dinner plates. I went into Goodwill today…and there were three dinner plates for $2 each. Sorry…but I bought them. I mean really…I’ve been looking on eBay for a couple of years.

I also had nice white bowls and an Athleta dress in my cart. I didn’t buy those!

I grant you forgiveness on your $6 purchase and commend you for leaving the other items in the cart.

@thumper1 I think that is exactly in the spirit of the thread. You were mindful in your spending today. Well done!

@thumper1. sounds like a perfect purchase. You got a real deal and you repurposed someone else’s trash into your treasure!
