Spending freeze February

Yup. None of that 4K etc. nonsense! I expect big $$ savings.

In March…I bought my four pairs of shoes…$160 total.

The only other stuff I bought was for DD’s wedding…but I don’t think that counts…and it all came from a thrift store.

My only recent purchases were those green bags to keep fruits fresh and a $3 hummingbird feeder. (Ok, that was a splurge. I already have three, but this one is different.) Nothing else. Couldn’t even talk S into eating out over spring break.

Didn’t buy anything in March - except the suit my husband needed (which we got a great price on). My daughter’s iphone did not get replaced - it is good as new between a free screen replacement and a $29 battery replacement from Apple.

I did buy tickets to two charitable author lunches (expensive but events I really enjoy and most of the ticket price is a donation).

Seems like everyone’s doing well! Especially if the idea is to be more mindful. I haven’t done any mindless spending but we start a remodel AND leave for a big trip tomorrow so this month has been full of spending as will April. But I can’t say that any has been mindless. It has and will be ‘mindful’ since we’ve planned for this. I don’t tend to buy trinkets on vacation so will continue to stay the course.

My one somewhat wasteful purchase today may be a new pair of shoes. Our trip looks like it’s going to be colder than I expected and I boxed up all my closed toe shoes that aren’t every day walking shoes. The “evening” shoes I was bringing are open toe sandals and I now know those make no sense. Will be stopping by DSW and Nordstrom today to see if I can find a pair that will work.

I’ve been picking up some things here and there for my hiking trip at the end of summer. I have a list and the shopping feels deliberate. So far, I have not succumbed to any other tempting things on the web sites.

It feels really good when a purchased item is “just right” and you get a lot of use out of it.

Well, I lucked out in that I had another Good Will to make today and recalled that one was filled with clothes and shoes. There was a pair of leather black boots that I haven’t worn in a couple years bc I have two other pair that I always pick before them. I’ll take them on my trip and just leave them behind. So, I didn’t need to go shopping/buy a new pair of shoes today.

The April cc billing cycle started today, and I had to buy a bottle of conditioner ($80) and a battery for my laptop ($35). Why such expensive hair product? L’Oreal has reformulated the product, and this is the leftovers of the old formula. And according to Amazon, the last time I bought this product was in June 2016, so the bottle lasted me almost 2 years! I think I can afford $50 a year in conditioner.

I went to TJ Maxx today. My advice? Don’t go to TJ Maxx today.

^^^Now we all want to know what we missed!

March: Turbotax, Easter candy, a hammer, a stud finder, a toothbrush holder, dog toys [the dog toys are true necessities], 2 paperbacks & that’s about it. Not exactly a freeze, but fairly reasonable.

Dog food, case for my new tablet, Roomba for FDIL b’day, and oven thermometer. No trinkets.

However – deposit for our trip to Italy in August, and tickets to go visit S1 an DIL in ND. That’s where the real money is going! No regrets, though. That’s where it should be going!

Oh yeah – and $1200 in new brakes for the car. :frowning:

@abasket - My store had just fully stocked the clothing section. A few cute, long, and swingy tops jumped into my arms. I went in without a cart! My defense is - tomorrow’s my birthday, so they were presents. Also, as a pear shaped person, I need forgiving a-line tops to avoid clinging. These were perfect for the winter/spring temperatures we have for the next two months, and also perfect for fall. When I did my big closet clean out earlier this year I realized I was a little short on thin, short-sleeved tops.

Did not buy the cute skirt off RealReal.

Came home… dang. Need a new check valve for the sump pump. Argh. Costs the same as the skirt! Lol. There went my $45.

@BunsenBurner Nope, sump pump parts do not count as expenses, only as potential future savings

Went with my niece to the outlets today.

The good news is that Sunday a new month will start.

Bought a dress for nieces graduation. Found a cute pair of shorts for $15 at brooks brothers and thought I found the matching shirt in the 80% off rack but nope. It was so cute that I had to buy it. Kinda a fail.

This may be TMI, but I went in search of comfy seamless undies to wear under my gym pants, etc. recently. Why does it seem like so little material costs so much? I ordered several online, while Macy’s was having 30% off name brand stuff, and will send some back before I even try them on. I will likely wind up with some I almost never wear. I’m classifying this as a need?

^^^ I can understand needing to charge a fair bit of $$ for good bras - I feel like a good bra has a job to do! But undies…I mean undies! I agree unless it’s shapewear it would seem that there isn’t much to the construction of them!

I succumbed to TJ Maxx today - my D2 is home for the weekend and it’s a favorite place for us to browse. Bought each of my girls a fun top and bought myself a work dress for $25 and two casual tops that are NOT tshirts for me - which I actually could really use - my wardrobe consists of work dresses and then athletic/athleisure wear - so for $25-30 I got two tops that I can actually wear in the middle - with jeans or a casual skirt or whatever.

I’ll be honest, that’s a pretty minor trip for US at TJ!!!

@1214mom , I also need more seamless undies. I find they are never long enough for me in the back and feel odd on. I still need them with certain skirts or pants though. Buy I agree, what’s with the price?

Sigh. The gods are conspiring against me.

Our landline phone hand sets died. I thought for a few seconds about ditching the landline, but we are dinosaurs, so no. $125 for four new handsets. (No, it wasn’t just the batteries.)

My computer mouse has stopped scrolling. Very annoying. I’m going to look at YouTube videos to see if I can fix it myself. Otherwise – probably $50 to $75.

One of the dogs chewed the catch on his invisible fence collar, so I needed to buy a new collar. With tax, $24.

My Oral B electric toothbrush had been sporadic, and it finally just stopped working. $100 for a new toothbrush.

Really annoying. It’s not even as if any of this stuff adds joy to my life!!

And now that it’s spring, I need to get the deck powerwashed, and buy topsoil and mulch and such for my planters and my garden.

I also need a new laptop. I have keys on the one I’m using that on’t work! I mean, don’t work!!
