Spinning a chld off family cell phone plan

<p>We have Verizon and there was no fee when either of our kids went off the family plan – one to switch to a new carrier and one to get a plan of her own with Verizon.</p>

<p>It would have made more sense financially, though, to keep the one who stayed with Verizon in the family plan and have her pay us her share of the bill every month. Or we could have put the plan in her name and paid her our share of the bill every month. The overall cost would have been lower either way.</p>

<p>Sometimes, I think we parents push independence too far.</p>

<p>The child mentioned in the original post would pay her monthly share of the family plan regularly, I am sure. Her younger sister, on the other hand, when the time comes, would definitely “forget” to pay us. For us spinning off D1 is all about setting precedence for D2.</p>
