Sports and School Spirit

Remember that Lafayette has the smallest student body size in the Patriot League. Support for all athletic endeavors is generally supported by students, because the athletes are your friends and colleagues. They are not simply seen on campus. Rather, they are in many of the same classes as the general student body.

One drawback to student support for athletic teams is that many events take place at Metzgar Fields, which is a substantial athletic complex located 3 miles north of campus. Most students have to take a shuttle bus there (the exception being the X-C team which is required to run there and back - I speak from experience). The net effect, depending on the weather and other events on campus, is to have an “away” feeling “home”. My personal experience while at Lafayette was that athletic events on campus were well attended and supported. Events at Metzgar were more sparsely attended.
