Many students have posted here how unhappy they are to be a spring admit. Perhaps they will feel better when they read these numbers from a national article regarding waiting lists.

Waiting list numbers from the article:

Duke
3,382

MIT
722

Yale
900+

Dartmouth
1740

How many of these students have even the slightest chance of being admitted?

Great point! Here’s another one to add to your list… How about 10,000 wait-listed for the UC system? (And that’s without UCLA and UC Merced as neither participates in the wait-list program.)

[UC freshman admission rate drops a bit; more than 10,000 wait-listed | L.A. NOW | Los Angeles Times](<a href=“Archive blogs”>Archive blogs)

I would sooo prefer a Spring admit to being wait-listed to any school.

That is awful. particularly the Duke waiting list. I just don’t know why they would do that. There’s no way that 3,382 people will make it, there’s a slight chance of even any getting off the waiting list. Freshman class at Duke is around 1,724, according to collegeboard.com. last year, 4,287 kids were accepted to Duke, so think about that same number. that’s awful, I feel bad for anyone waiting for that…or waitlist in general.
