Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

I feel like next week will be the week for a lot of us? But I’m probably wrong…

I am pretty sure, almost positive, that all transfer applicants are reviewed holistically, regardless of location.

Also, just a note, on UT’s admissions twitter page, they said most transfers haven’t gotten their decisions yet. (If that makes anyone feel semi at ease haha)

This waiting game sucks!

@britni12 wow, that does make me feel a lot better! Sounds like we have a lot of acceptances incoming. Eek…

Another bit of info from the admissions Twitter is that the majority of >30 hr transfer students should hear back before the <30 hr transfer students do. Kind of goes against the idea that those with >30 who haven’t heard will be contested against those with <30 upon spring transcript arrivals.

Where did that prevalent idea come from, anyway? Anywhere official?

Did any RTF people submit films with their applications?

Were we meant to apply to housing before we got accepted?

hey all! im new here and will be applying for transfer admission next year. I just have one question and was wondering if yall could help me out. On the UT CNS transfer page, it says that applicants should have “Demonstrated interest and ability in their desired field”. Going off of this, I will be participating in four various internships over the summer. One with an oncologist at a hospital, another with a cardiologist, one with an OBGYN and a final internship abroad in Mexico with a urologist. I will be getting Rec. Letters from each of these doctors. My question is would this count as “demonstrating interest and ability in my desired field” (which is biology/biochemistry)? Also, would this help my chances for admission, granted that I have a good GPA, Extracurriculars, etc?

Thanks and GL to all,

Plshelpmeppl

@gallantamerican @Newsie2015 I’m sorry I just now saw this! I sent my final transcript in as soon as my community college posted grades and I’m not quite sure if UT got it. I’m assuming they did because when I was accepted and saw the list of all the additional things I had to provide in mystatus (like high school transcript) my final college transcript was not on that list to provide. I should probably call and check though.

@gallantamerican @Newsie2015 I requested my transcript to be sent on Wednesday this past week because that’s when grades were going to be posted and got accepted on Thursday morning. I’m not even sure if they had the opportunity to even look at those grades but my gpa stayed the same:)

See exactly, we had to pay a 50 dollar non-refundable fee just to find out if we would have housing or not.

@Clintonwk lol I think that’s something that we all just came up with, because we hadn’t heard back yet, and <30 hours were starting to come in. I trust that if the admissions twitter page said majority >30 will hear before <30 hours.

@plshelpmeppl Demonstrated interest is also tied to your application for the school, not just interest in the field (internships, extra curriculars, etc). Every time you call the school, post on their twitter, instagram, or facebook, write them an email, visit the school, and take an official tour, it all goes into a file along with your application. They want to see that you are genuinely interested in them, so when your application is reviewed, the reviewers will see every time you have interacted with them. I have read this from multiple sources online- if a school states they are looking for demonstrated interest, this is what they mean. I have posted a few times on UT’s Facebook, as well as their Instagram; one time a professor actually liked my comment!! I was so excited haha I just wrote the CNS admissions an email telling them I am moving there in 2 weeks, never having been to Austin, and if they had any tips for traveling to UT from Pflugerville, as well as asking them if there is anything I can do to prepare or bring with me to the tour I am scheduled for. Most of what I’ve done wasn’t just to show them I am interested, it was genuine.
I have also read that a good demonstrated interest can absolutely give you an edge. If it comes down to you and another person being compared, and you have similar stats, they will absolutely let in the applicant who has been in contact with them, and seems more eager to attend their school (NOT annoying though- don’t call them once a week, or write them 14 emails)

Does anyone know how long it takes after you send your transcripts for you application to be marked complete? They “received” about a week ago but my dashboard still says my application is incomplete.

@ImpatientUT That seems a little longer than usual, I would give them a call. When my transcripts were uploaded during my normal application time, I’m over 30 hours, my transcripts were denied within 4 hours, I needed to scan the back side too (lol), when I re-uploaded them, it took them 2 days for them to accept.

Is geography the easiest major to get admitted to in liberal arts, or is it something else?

My daughter’s transcripts were received on Monday, but not really “acknowledged” that they were received until Wednesday (that’s when they fell off the to-do list). A few hours later it was marked as complete.

@britni12 Okay, I’ll give them a call tomorrow and just to be safe.

@rach98n That makes me feel a little better!

@radgr1l do you know what day you got in?

Moody peeps who were accepted I will be attending the first orientation as well!

@rach98n Actually, my “To do list” went away and I only have the “recommended” tab left, but I still have the paragraph explaining I need to submit my transcripts at the top of my status page. When did that change for your daughter?
