She still hasn’t made her decision as we have two schools to go (Denison and Oberlin in OH). We enjoyed our trip to St. Lawrence, and it’s clear its alumni LOVE the place (part of how they operate–alumni are connected for life). Beautiful campus and they really rolled out the red carpet (well-organized admitted student event with some good presentations). Seems like really good student support too. But my artsy D25 thought the students and accepted students felt too familiar/not diverse enough in every sort of way, which is one of the reasons she wouldn’t even look at our state university – “why would I want to go to college with the people I went to high school with?” – the art/dance departments seemed small, and the academics didn’t interest her as much as at later schools. Also the school seemed more into athletics and school spirit/Greek life than she is. Overall my husband said it really reminded him of his prep school – not that that is a bad thing at all, but probably not for her.
