StageDoorManor

Oh! The Wiz! That was my first show at stagedoor and definitely one of my favorites. I was part of the tornado/yellow brick road/poppy flower/flying monkey (although we changed it to kung fu monkeys, but it was all fun)/a bunch of dance parts. i hope everyone in the Wiz has a fun time with it!

and i think soozie was asking how i liked working with michael raimondi (a while ago) and he’s basically amazing. i think he said miss saigon was possibly the hardest thing he’s had to direct but i think he did a fantastic job with it. it was a great time, but i’d hardly expect anything less from stagedoor.

Liz, hey, then I must have seen you in The Wiz! And I gather you were in ensemble of Guys and Dolls as I now see your name in that program. So, I have seen you before but did not realize it. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I heard you are going to Brown and I have a daughter who just finished her freshman year at Brown and LOVES it. Also, there is a boy from SDM who my SDM kid knows real well (was in OTC with him several years ago) who is going to be a senior at Brown and who is very active in musical theater there. We saw him this year with his a capella group. My D who goes to Brown also saw the musical he wrote that was performed. The SDM world is not that big and it seems wherever ya go, you run into them in theater.

I hope you have a great year at Brown. I am sure you will.

Hi Everyone! Just got a call from my D this afternoon and she said all is going well at SDM. She is in “Godspell” and told me she was given a solo and is absolutely thrilled (as I mentioned in a previous post, this is one of her most favorite musicals though she has never had the opportunity to be in it.) She also told me that Kent (who played slave Jim in “Big River” plays “Jesus” and is wonderful. She said he has the most beautiful voice! (We were lucky enough to hear him sing in “Big River” and he was phenomenal.) Anyway, I hope I get to meet some of you during performance weekend and also see some of your kids perform as well! Please keep posting with any updated news!

OnTheRun…that’s great news. Yay! I bet it will be a great show. That musical is one that affords many the opportunity to be featured. A great choice for a program like this.

Thanks Soozie, I will let you know how the show goes. Thanks also for all the time you put into this forum - patiently answering questions! I don’t post very often but I do read the info and find it very helpful.

ontherun
Congrats to your D. I love Godspell. My S was in it last year and I saw it many times.

Thank you tenorsmom. I am familiar with the music from Godspell but have never seen the show! How is your son by the way? I hope he is feeling better.

bump (dont want to lose this thread  ) – any parents hear any news from stagedoor campers?

Hi again everyone. I’ve been absent from the CC Board because I changed my email address, and it took a while for my new one to be “verified.” But now I have CC posting privileges again!

It was great putting faces to Angst and Ontherun during 2nd session visiting weekend, after corresponding for a while, as I did after first session visiting weekend with SoozieVT.

I am sure that all the 3rd session kids are having an amazing time, and the show lineup looks terrific!

They posted some photos of second session in the gallery.

D had a fabulous time attending SDM for the first time this year in sessions 1 and 2. She made some wonderful new friends.

There are some wonderful pictures up of Session 1 and 2 and the 30th anniversary gala. Makes you relive the experience all over again!

I’m just checking in after a long vacation and saying hello – Scogor, it was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely girls!

My D had a great camp experience, playing a blonde (she is brunette) for the first time ever as young Sally in Follies. She wore a hilarious red polka dot dress and oversized hair bow that I think may have appeared in Ruthless a few years earlier.

Angstridden, did your D wear T-strap character shoes in the final curtain call? I saw a girl with blonde shoulder length hair that I thought might be your daughter. We really enjoyed Aida and wished we could have seen many other shows. Such a crazy weekend – it all happens so fast.

After camp we ran into a few other Stagedoor kids by chance. At the Nederlander seeing Rent we were sitting near the boy who played Chris in Miss Saigon. He had been a first time camper and had a great experience. He and his mom were very nice.

Good wishes to the third session kids!

Well, we will be off to Loch Sheldrake and environs on Friday! Unfortunately, both my D’s and her friend’s shows are in the same group, so they will not get to see each other “live.” They’ll just have to swap CDs, I guess.

Both girls are still enjoying themselves immensely. My D caught a stomach bug last week and couldn’t participate in the last two days of classes… but she said she sat on the sidelines and watched them, so she thinks she gleaned a bit from just being there. Thankfully, she is fully recovered.

I have been thinking about tenorsmom’s son since she shared the news of his bronchitis. I sincerely hope that he is better and able to take part in “The Wiz.” My daughter’s friend is also in “The Wiz” (ensemble; dance captain).

Our families are staying at the Swan Lake Hotel… we chose it because the girls’ older brothers, both 16 and friends, need activities to keep them busy. Seeing their little sisters’ shows just doesn’t cut it… so they plan to golf, play tennis, and scan the pool for cute girls (not necessarily in that order) I told them that the prettiest girls in the area are most likely at Stagedoor, so maybe they WILL want to see an extra show (or two)!

We found a restaurant willing to accommodate our multi-family group of 16 (!) on Saturday night: Manny’s Steakhouse. Are any of you familiar with it? A very sweet Stagedoor alumna told me it was one of her family’s favorites.

I’ll be glad to share my performance weekend observations when we return. I also look forward to hearing from other Stagedoor parents!

Mom4Life-Good luck with your daughter’s show! I will be leaving Thursday from D.C. area, my daughter is in “Godspell”. She sings the solo “Bless the Lord” in the show. Have a safe trip! Good luck to all other Session III parents!

Mom4Life,

We are going to Loch Sheldrake on Friday also. My son says that he has recovered from the bronchitis but he is very tired. Unfortunately I won’t be able to see your D’s or Ontherun’s D’s shows because they are at the same time as The Wiz. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I know I am looking forward to it.

Guess whos back!@!!! CAST OF LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS 2005!I will write a loing and detailed entry tomm. but I was up till 3 am eating food. A few things to random people
Susan- your daughter’s stage manager Katie (my counsler)from Jekyll says she blew ehr away and if she doesnt get on Broadway something is wrong with the world.Shes so talented and rocks.
Audi- I got a few OMG Matty B I love him! from the girls . Pass them on
ontherun- I did meet Katie and was in the audence of Godspell. Amazing amazing show. You passed my room on the last dya and I was standing right there how freaky ?? Did you catch little shop by any chance ? I was in the ensemble nad has a line as a nurse. My mom said I can prolly go back 2nd and 3rd 2006. Ill write more later.
For all of you who were wondering Best Ensemble went to Celebration and Museum. Needless to say Jeff and Kelley were very happy. It was so funny that Susan’s D’s signature was everywere lol. I also heard a casting agent came first session from the WB and is VERRRYYYYY interested in Miles.

Ive been reading . Susan I would like to let you know a boy named Kent did brother can you spare a dime , for our session and he was amazing. He was picked out of a talent searcha nd they had him in my show as hte voice of the plant and Godspell as Jesus. Also I noticed alot of favoritism also. The girl in Annie got it b.c she was Jeff Murphys neice. She wasnt that good. Also one thing that did come to mind is the girl who got Roxie Hart in Chicago was brand new. I was not able to see it as I was an A show but I saw The Wiz,Godspell and Childrens Hour( my friend had the lead). She got called back to OTC and P.E which is amang consindering it was her first year, but she was amazing. Sorry im rambling.

Defying Gravity…I’m so glad you posted! I am dying to hear how you liked camp! Tell us! your classes, your show, the experience, the friends…I am gathering you liked it if you are talking of going back two sessions next year! I know you were a bit anxious ahead of time so now I wanna know the scoop! I feel like I got to know ya and so inquiring minds want the follow up. I read on the SDM forum who played Seymour and that boy and my daughter have known one another since 1998 and did shows together when young at SDM. I recall her first summer when she was only 9, that he liked her, a little “crush” I will call it, lol. Soooooo long ago! We went to his Bar Mitzvah in fact. But the past two summers he went third session so their paths did not cross.

Yes, brand new kids do get big parts. You are saying that Roxy was new. Someone told me that last session the lead in Lucky Stiff was brand new too.

If you saw my D’s signature that is because kids sign the backstage and leave a list of their shows and roles in their tenure at SDM. She had sixteen sessions there so the list is rather long. I have a photo that her dad took this summer of her signing this year’s credits back stage along with Miles who is a close friend.

Just for the future, so you know, I have chosen to not use my D’s name on this forum so I have asked the moderator to substitute “daughter” for where you used her name in your post. Thanks.

Yes, I heard that Kent was amazing. It is cool that that solo went back to a boy because it used to be sung by a male and then went through two females including my D for several years and now is back in it with a boy. Wish I had seen it.

Waiting to hear about your experiences!
Susan

PS, get some sleep so you can recover from the final night!

Dear DefGrav-hopefully you are sound asleep right now and will get this post tomorrow. I remember my S sleeping the whole ride back from camp on the back seat and then slept many hours that night into the next day! That last day with the shows, awards ceremony, OTC and the last night activities is to say the least, draining and tiring!!!
Anyway, like Soozie, I am sooooo glad you seemed to enjoy yourself and want to go back again for 2 sessions next year!!! See, we told you that you would enjoy it. You were a little worried before leaving and we tried to calm your nerves. I knew after a few days you would be fine and loving the whole experience. Please fill us in on your time there-classes, show, activities, roomies etc. I am so glad you had fun and now have the whole experience as a happy memory. When you get your DVD of Little Shop, you can watch and rewatch it over and over. We just got S’s shows yesterday and have spent many hours watching OTC, How to Succeed and the Dance/Modeling show. It is so much fun and of course he has to pause it every 15 seconds to tell us a funny story about this one or that one, or some funny thing that happened during rehearsal etc. etc. LOL

BTW, Kent was there during 2nd session too-he was Jim in Big River and sang in OTC and yes he is amazing-he has such a presence about him and my S said he has a heart of gold too-just the nicest guy!!
And to all the other parents of 3rd sessions kids, hope they had a great time too-please share some of their experience with us too!

Ahh Seymour. I had the biggest crush on him but he ended up going out with Velma Kelly. I would not have had a chance with him anyway, he didi’nt really talk to me. Im not good with guys so needless to say the dances were torture. I asked the boy that played Mr. Mushnik to the dance but he turned me down for another girl. Okay, my roomates were amazing except one. Im sure your D. knows her and she said some pretty “interesting” things about you . If you8 wanna know detials I can email you. My friend Angie got to play Martha in childrens hour with Micheal Ramondi and got 2 awards and callbacks to both, but did not make players. I took Ballet 1,Tools of Acting with Melissa Attbury director of the Dining Room, amazing class, Jazz1 with Larry Nye(so scared of that man haha)creating a musical with Paul Stancato(amazing man) I tried out for master voice but I did not make it. 90 kids tried out and I tried out for alto and 3 kids made alto.I was also in Singing tech with Erich Raush (great man , bad class) Musical Performace with Catherine Cox(director of once on this island who is getting me backstage for wicked and I love her forever,) and Audition for a Musical with Rob Sharlow(director of Annie) and Rob Wicks. Amazing guys great class. There were the girls who were very clquy and materlistic but msot were nice. I found the guys to be nice but mabye it was jsut me but I felt i couldnt approach them and as they were glued to the girls they had known for previous sessions. I made one guy friend who was 3 years younger then me. I was very upset when I got into celebration (it is not a revue its about the celebration of life and an orphan boy teaching a rich man how to enjoy life fomr the people that created Fantastiks, ironiclly it won best ensemble. But we won best banner and cast vollyball so its all good. My cast was amazing expect for one girl and the gir; that played Audrey was not nice at all but very talented. My cast was so close we really bonded though and about a week into the show decided yes we can do this, finished hte show a weeka nd a 1/2 early and worked on little mistakes form there. The set and props were amazing and Chad was an amazing dentist nad Kent was an amazing plant and casey was hot and a good actor.
