^^ I’m between Stanford and Cornell. It’s kind of a pain that Stanford’s admit weekend is the three days before you need to commit. And I still haven’t been added to the FB group. I live nearby so I’m pretty sure it’s where I want to go, but my mom is being kind of pessimistic and it’s making me worried. does anyone know if there is a page where you can ask current Stanford students questions?
is anyone still unable to see their aid letter?
@sodapop027 If you go on the admitted students website, click discuss on cardinal connect, then click discuss after the new page loads, there a box where you can post questions for current students. Also you can click contact and it lists some students and their emails if you wanted to message a person in a specific area of study
@sodapop027, @Lagging has a thread under Stanford University, titled “ask a current student anything”. It has been extremely informative.
@sodapop027 Happy to answer any questions (and have already answered quite a few, so feel free to check it out). That new admit site sounds interesting as well - probably a great way to get information on clear cut questions. My answers are completely unfiltered while ones coming from students through the school might be a little more self-moderated when it comes to subjective views and experiences.
Does anyone have experience appealing their financial aid with Stanford? Is it better to call, send an email or send a letter with their Appeal Form? My son was also accepted to Yale and Princeton and their need based financial award is considerably better. Should he mention these acceptances and their better financial aid offers when writing to Stanford? The financial data we submitted to all of them is largely the same except that the CSS profile that was submitted in REA to Stanford had errors in some estimates, so I was planning to use the updated CSS as a hook for a possible review.
If anyone can direct me to examples of appeal/review letters it would be great.
@Amacord We had the reverse situation with Stanford and Yale last year and successfully appealed our Yale aid award by sending higher award letters from Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. You should contact Stanford, explain your situation (just like you did in your post), and send copies of your award letters from Yale and Princeton. Good luck!
@Amacord Also, you don’t need to say that your son will attend Stanford if Stanford’s award is increased. Just mention your son’s strong interest in attending Stanford, the differences in the awards, and the errors in your CSS profile. Then ask whether, given these circumstances, Stanford might consider reviewing its award. If Stanford increases its award, you should also ask whether that level of support will continue for subsequent years, assuming your financial situation remains the same. You wouldn’t want to end up having your award for the first year be substantially more than for later years. Yale wasn’t able to promise us that, but we still felt like they were operating in good faith, so the award didn’t end up being a factor in my son’s decision to attend Stanford.
when is sign up for admit weekend due by?
@APersonsHistory iirc April 19th. if you go to the sign up website it should say
Apparently Malia is on campus today, FYI.
Looking to apply REA here…Does Stanford accept ACT scores from the October 22 date? On their website it says that they can’t guarantee it, but it’s still possible?
Hello everyone I am in my sophomore year of highschool and Stanford is my dream school. Freshman year wasn’t that great in my opinion. I was taking AP Human Geography and AP Biology. I scored a 5 on the human exam and a 2 on the Biology (definitely not the class for me). I finished freshman year with a 3.6 weighted gpa and a 4.0 weighted. In terms of extracurriculars, I lettered freshman year for varsity golf and we won districts. I also am doing preap art and I am thinking of doing AP art next year and maybe even applying for some art schools just for curiousness. Sophomore year I am taking all preap classes with varsity golf and I am taking AP World History. I definitely see that I have an interest in History at this point in my life. It is just so interesting and eye opening to me. I aim to make straight a’s this year and so on. If I continue this path will I be on the right track? (I will also be doing NHS after sophomore year)
@madingo: It might help if you look other threads. This is for people who graduated in 2016.
