@IfnousWHO Of course, but there are kids with multiple top 10 acceptances who refuse to relinquish some match/safety offers, and likewise some who already have an acceptance to their top choice but refuse to withdraw other applications just to see where else they’ll get in. Not all of us are that lucky and it just feels like a slap in the face.
@mdorbust Point taken. If they have a feasible FA package and it is their top choice by all means there is little to nothing that will change their mind and can start the withdraw process early.
@mdorbust really true
This whole process is just insane. It shouldn’t be this competitive to get a freaking bachelor’s degree at a decent school.
I’m going to be honest, it’s a pride thing. I’m four for four on schools at the moment, waiting for four more, Stanford and some ivies. But if I somehow get into Stanford, my top choice, I’m not going to withdraw my applications from my other schools or turn down the schools I’ve been accepted to because I want to eight for eight. That may sound mean and kids may not like me for it, but I don’t care, and that’s how the majority of people feel, it’s an ego boost to get into college.
@Youwishyouknew yeah, i’d like to see you be the victim of the so called “pride.”
@ComputerAge
Yes, I did receive an email from Stanford at 8am ET about 3/25, 3pm pacific decision release.
@Bluebrry I have no idea what you mean by that.
It’s understandable. It is stressful times and we all share the dream. Whatever got us to this point will now help see us thru. Hang in there!
3/31 is just around the corner.
Side note… No one should feel bad for hanging on to their acceptances. I have a clean sweep with my Canadian schools and I haven’t turned down my spots even though I don’t hope to enroll. Although I’m already on two waitlists in the states, I don’t blame anyone for not withdrawing their applications because I know that it’s not going to get me off the waitlist any sooner. By May 1st, everyone is going to enroll in only 1 college and lose all their other spots, so it really makes no difference if they withdraw now or on the 1st of May. Enjoy your acceptances! I can tell you its no easy feat…
@Youwishyouknew You sure sound like a real hit at parties
@Computerage I really hope that notification email has nothing to do with actual admissions… because I didn’t get one either :’(
@Bluebrry - He filled out the application and paid the fee, so he deserves to see the results. Then, he can commit and the schools can begin pulling from waitlists, as they would have had to anyway.
No one is the “victim” here. Even if he rescinded his Harvard app, for example, tommorrow after getting into Stanford, it’s not like they’re going to go “oh well, let’s go back and re-evaluate so we can find someone else to accept 2 days before results. Oh look, @bluebrry’s app is here! Let’s just move it into the other pile.” They’re going to do the same thing they will when he doesn’t commit - wait until May then take some more people.
On the reverse side I think it’s ridiculous to call other people selfish for not withdrawing their applications for your gain. They did just as much work and paid just as much as you did. Just because you don’t get the result you wanted doesn’t mean its the fault of others.
@IfnousWHO Are you an international student? If not, have you ever logged into your portal before?
@ComputerAge
No, I am in Florida.
@IfnousWHO Thank you, you too. I hope it works out for everyone.
Guys and Gals,
It’s a fruitless debate. Let’s reset the clock and be tolerant to each other. These are stressful times and we have all worked hard to have a shot at a great education. Let’s keep it positive and be supportive of each other. We all have had moments of fatigue and anxiety at one point or another. Let’s appeal to our better angels and be understanding and tolerant!
Best of luck to all!!!
After I got into Stanford, I withdrew most of my applications because I thought it wasn’t fair to other applicants who may want my spot at x college, when I clearly didn’t want it anymore. I only left the colleges which I might choose over Stanford. Besides, being an international who got in early at the school with the lowest acceptance rate and MIT is a pretty good ego boost.
@Bluebrry I’m just being honest about what the mindset of people is. Hypothetically, you get into Stanford tomorrow, and I’m sure you will, and it is by far your top choice, nothing will sway you. You’re also waiting to hear from the Ivies and you got likely letters from lets say Princeton and Yale. Are you going to withdraw all your applications right then and there? Wouldn’t you much rather have the satisfaction of knowing that you got into at least three incredible schools, not necessarily to publicize, but to know for yourself?
