Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

@tequiero the wait’s almost over… 14 hours to go…

@kath00 Speaking from my experience of getting deferred last year-- The deferral letter starts out something like “We appreciate the time you spent on your application and acknowledge your strong interest in Stanford as a Restrictive Early Action applicant. After careful consideration of your application, you have been deferred” (or something like that).

The second paragraph (this is exact, I took a screenshot of it so I’m directly typing what it said) is: “The reasons for deferring an REA application vary, but in most cases we want to reassess your candidacy in the broader context of our entire applicant pool, or we want to see your first term senior year grades. Although we cannot predict the likelihood of gaining admission, in each of the past four years approximately fifteen percent of deferred candidates have been admitted.”

The third paragraph basically mentions how to submit updates to your app.

Best of luck!!!

@kath00 i’m just wondering, is it possible to use the size of the PDF to guess the contents?

@17zhangw mate just open the letter

@vasodys I will, when it comes out in about 12 hours!

@17zhangw why would you want to guess from the size though :))

@vasodys A friend and I were having a discussion about whether the differences in content were significant enough to yield noticeable differences in the created PDF’s file size. At the end of the day, it probably won’t matter.

@17zhangw Ok we’ll compare sizes after we get the pdfs then xD

12 hours to go!

I literally had three separate dreams where I got admitted only to wake up and realize it was only a dream. :(( This is torture.

@vasodys @17zhangw there is no PDF. It’s online, and you see your decision online. You have like a sentence sayings that there was an update on your application, and a “letter” pops out(more like a written text online). I hope this is clear, but my main point is there are no pdfs

@TheLastofUs9 oh ok

@TheLastofUs9 Wait really? So when we go to our status page it’ll just say?

@Cabothedog No, it will say 1 new update and once you click on that, the text will come up

@vasodys Ohh, that makes more sense

Guys – don’t expend energy worrying about the hows and whys of how the decision will be delivered. Trying to look at the size of the PDF? C’mon. Click “open”.

I mean really – if Stanford had Hedwig the snow owl fly in your window and poop out the decision into your hand, you’ll still find out, right?

It won’t be subtle. It’ll be clear. Go do something else, stop refreshing this page! It’ll be all right! You’ve worked extremely hard and unless you’re completely insane and not viable, you’ll 99.998% likely have a wonderful collegiate career – Stanford or no Stanford. You’re ALREADY fantastic.

^^

This is by far the most fun-filled thread! Reminds me of member interaction in my son’s robotics team. Love it!!! You all are so deserving, dedicated and fun. Wish you all the best of luck today and beyond!

One more thing before I leave you to embark my own journey for today…fill out the results page now before you inflate/deflate your ratings with a decision. I know if I got denied, I’d probably rate myself lower, so do it before to give next year’s kids some good profiles to look at. Thanks. Good Luck Everyone, See you on the other side

@Lovemydolphins thank you! So helpful. It is also incredibly helpful that they write about wanting to see grades and the chances of getting in. It gives concrete info in an otherwise untangible process.

8am here now in Cali. 7 hours to go…
