With grades become more inflated at more high schools and standardized tests become easier and optional at more colleges, college admission will become more “holistic”. I’m not sure about their biases but I’m certain colleges prefer opacity to transparency in the admission process. As long as they can get away with it, they won’t change.
Do our AOs send us handwritten letters for RD or is that only for EA?
Does anyone know who to contact to sit in on a class? After logging in the website with my SUNet ID, I tried to contact them, but they sent a general link to the visiting page.
@mohave
If you mean to sit in on a class as an admited student, say between now and admit weekend, our experience was that the list of available classes was only available to be picked up at the Visitors Center when you arrive on campus. Planning in advance was not really possible.
However the course catalog is on line and D had some luck contacting faculty directly and asking if a visit was ok. Not everyone responded but even if there was some reason the class was closed, the request was always politely dealt with.
Admit weekend they have special presentations but I am not sure profros attend regular classes as well.
Is there a way to start a Stanford Parents FB group to discuss the various questions we have on our mind.
My daughter was accepted EA and I have been trying to figure this out ever since. Who would I have to contact to get one going?
She was accepted to Duke RD and there was one officially started right away!
@bullishmom - have you searched on FB? My ds’s parents group is “Stanford Parents of the Class of 2018.” It was started after the REA admits were accepted. I joined after Ds was accepted in the RD round after being deferred from REA. I bet there is already a group if you search for it. Apologies if you’ve already tried this.
I have actually and there are other groups including one for the Class of 2021…but not yet anyway for 2022!
Thx though!
@bullishmom - sounds like you are going to be the group administrator!
@bullishmom …let me know when you get one going! I’ve search too… couldn’t find 2022
I have a question from the admitted kids! I haven’t received a single email from Stanford ever since the results came out (and I found out I was admitted). Is this normal? I’ve received a bunch of emails from Harvard and Columbia, but I’m yet to come by any emails from Stanford. Do they not want me or something? Or maybe this has something to do with the fact that I already enrolled at Stanford?
I think there may be a technical issue @crimsondream22. Contact the admissions office to make sure they have the correct email on file because there may be a typo. I have received at least 2 emails since being admitted
It’s normal I think. My kid was admitted back in December and we have barely heard from them via email.
hella late but got waitlisted aka please go to harvard, thanks.
Ouch moment by admissions - They contacted an interviewer near me with who they admitted. Interviewer sent a very nice personal note to my friend’s child welcoming them to Stanford. The next day decisions came out - denied.
That’s a major mess-up and probably on the interviewer’s part, not admissions. Harvard for example does not provide admission information to alumni interviewers until the day AFTER the decisions come out, just to avoid this kind of mistake. I wonder if the interviewer misunderstood the information given. Stanford is pretty new to the alumni interviewing game.
The term ‘holistic’ basically has the connotation ‘theres too many qualified applicants and we have no freaking clue who to take’
@Magnetron That’s the interviewer’s misstep. We alumni interviewers were notified of decisions and given instructions for contact Sunday after admissions decisions were released.
You’re right, @geraniol . I talked to the mom again and the note came the day after results. The mom talked to the interviewer who was adamant that the information given by Stanford involved her son. Still bad on admission’s part.
Anyone opening parents thread for the class of 2022? or one exists already?
There is now a now a group
