Stanford joins MIT in requiring reporting of ALL AP Scores

I’d like it if schools that require SAT/ACT would go the same route —while I personally support TO policies, I think if you’re requiring standardized tests you should require every sitting be submitted. Oh, and no super scoring.

An interesting development for sure. I’m interested in this, from Stanford:

  • AP/IB/A-Levels:

    • Students currently enrolled in an IB Diploma program outside the U.S. are required to have a school official send us their predicted IB marks (including TOK/essay bonus points).

At the HS my kids attended, students on the IB track don’t typically take AP classes too. So they don’t want predicted IB scores from US IB kids? Seems odd.

Nor really. Predicted scores outside the US are common, Teachers know how to predict scores, and there’s a track record of accuracy. US students in general (note the qualifier) have none of that

Agree that predicted scores are meaningless in the US - hell my daughters Bio HL teacher had been on the job 15 minutes, can’t begin to guess what they would have predicted.

At our school it’s incredibly common to take the AP test - mostly because the flagship university is much more generous with AP credit and most students do great with even an SL class. My daughter had 5s on both econ APs with a SL econ class - which pretty much no universities give credit for.

My son missed a bunch of AP tests as they conflicted with the state swim meet - maybe it’s different with non-covid years, but they didn’t offer a reasonable alternative date so missed pretty much all the AP exams his senior year.
