i usually only stalk this page but it turns out i got off the waitlist on tuesday! i’m feeling pretty torn right now bc i didn’t expect this. i hate to be that guy bc i know most people on this thread are still waiting on any news, but does anyone have any info on financial aid offers?
@JosephKim0530 as a parent of international kids (one is American) I would highly recommend going to school in the fall. Most likely classes will be online but not sure about your time zone. Enjoy the experience and yes kids complain that online is not that great but that’s part of the learning process. Just keep in mind that some classes might have issues allowing you to view materials while outside of the US (to my surprise had this issue in one of my kid’s class)
Anybody have a rough idea of how many people they’ve taken off the WL so far?
Also, how many are on the WL to begin with?
Make STUDENTID through AXESS.STANFORD.EDU and wait for 24 hours and then you can see Student button from there you might can check your all information including Financial Aid. Good Luck!
to anyone who got off a few days ago, when do you guys have to reply by?
@hereforcake How did u maintain contact with your rep? I wanted to do the same :’( but was too scared because it seemed like Stanford didn’t want you bothering their admissions committee with any update¿
@cheddarthedog We need to reply by July 7. The enrollment fee is $200.
@bimo2020 I know this wasn’t for me, but all I did was send one really long continued interest email and expressed all the things that I’d done from January to April (when I was writing the email). If you have any significant things to report, do so with the update box if you can’t write a full-out essay!
@heythereyall have u been able to access the approaching stanford forms? or anyone else who got off the waitlist for that matter?
@bimo2020 I did a combination of emailing my rep and using the built-in form on their admissions site. I probably sent 4-5 updates in total; around one every 2-4 weeks. Generally, I’d put in info on the form and then email my rep as a follow up about my update usually with a question or something as well. I also told him once or twice definitively that if I were to be admitted I would 100% attend. If this is the case for you, I’d def. make sure to tell your rep that. I was admitted exactly a day after my final update (which was a YouTube link to my speech at our virtual graduation) so I’m not sure if it had any effect or if they’d already made the decision by then. Best of luck to you and let me know if you have any other questions!
Did you rep respond? Ours has been poor to respond ever since the application process began,
@Purplemonkey243 Stanford lost some of my financial aid forms that I sent back in January so I had to resubmit them. I still haven’t gotten my financial aid package and as a result, I haven’t enrolled. I don’t know what forms you’re talking about, but are they forms you get after enrolling?
@heythereyall ahh i see, yea after u enroll u have to set up your sunet id and email, and then u have to start filling out approaching stanford forms, but for some reason, im not able to access them
oh okay i seeeee, and the update box and built-in form yall are referring to is the 500 character waitlist form that was linked in our waitlist letter correct ?
I filled that out a while back, but basically I could expand on what I mentioned in that form and update my admissions officers on other additional significant achievements ?
Also @hereforcake i also made a speech at my grad, would u recommend me sending a link too with the timestamp at which I was speaking ? And what kind of questions did you ask your admission officer?
Moreover, how did your admissions officers respond? Were they nice about it? And sounded happy to hear updates from you?
Soooo Sorry for all the questions…Stanford has always been my dream school and I really hope that whatever slim chance is left I could still be accepted off the waitlist hehe
BTW thank you BOTH for responding< it was very insightful, thank you thank you
@bimo2020 oh hey, sry i missed yur question earlier… but to give my perspective, i actually didn’t submit anything else except the 500 word update (and i only wrote 2 bullets at that), plus a short email that i asked my guidance counselor to write to restate my interest
@bimo2020 Yeah I’d for sure send the timestamp link. Congrats on making a speech! I was able to submit the 500 character form multiple times. Once with the initial waitlist response form and other times just through the standard portal. I forget exactly what the technical process was but it was pretty simple. They may have closed the ability to send updates now tho idk.
In terms of questions for my admissions officer, I mostly just asked about the waitlist (if he knew if/ when there was going to be a second wave) and then I initially started my email chain just by asking if I’d be able to send him additional updates besides the singular form in the waitlist response form. He responded fairly quickly to most of my emails and it was pretty stock, basically just a “thank you for your updates and we’ll be sure to let you know if we have any questions” not much substance. I think he was nice about it but idk that might’ve just been my rep.
Edit: just went through my email chain with him again and I actually sent him one file too, a visual resume thing I made to highlight some of my journalism work in HS. Not a long document but def more creative than a lot of the text-based application elements.
I wish you the best of luck! Just a few days ago, Stanford assigned us to read the book “Grit” as a freshman class. You’ve got grit and I hope this works out for you! I’d advise keeping up the contact and maybe taking some risks. Ask your rep for a phone call? Make them a video? Idk, but you never know what will work. You’ve got this!
@hereforcake omg thank you so much for the insight, advice, and encouragement?! Thank you to @Purplemonkey243 too!! And just to make sure, it would be me trying to get in contact with my “regional admission officer” right?
@bimo2020 Yep! Regional officer.
@bimo2020 I actually emailed my regional counselor a 1000 word update because I’m extra. But yeah, after I emailed it, she directed me to the update box for any further updates. Seems like that’s what they prefer. Btw, good luck! You seem really dedicated to getting off the waitlist, and with the unpredictability of the next few months, I think everyone on the extended waitlist has a decent chance of getting off the waitlist!
