Stanley Cup Playoffs 2014

two very high scoring games last night. Fun to watch though! I was rooting for the Jackets too even though my team doesn’t play until tonight. Go Hawks!! I hope they get it together tonight cause it’s been spotty all season.

Anyone watching the Chicago/St. Louis game? Oy vey!

Watching the Chicago/St. Louis game? No, I am engaged in happier pursuits.

And now Avs/Wild has gone to OT. I will not be a happy person if Sharks/Kings goes to OT.

It’s always a good day to me when the Blackhawks lose

It’s always a good day to me when the Kings lose. Especially when they are playing the Sharks in the playoffs. That game got a little too exciting in the third period.

A good day for left-wingers. First the ACA numbers, and then the LWs on all four Sharks lines scored.

I’m glad that I didn’t stay up to watch the end of the Blues/Blackhawks game. Good for Alexander Steen for scoring the winner. He’s had an amazing year.

The Flyers better turn things around quickly or they’re going to be out in four. Being outshot 36-15 and taking multiple very stupid penalties, not what you need to win in the playoffs.

I hope that the Red Wings are ready to win tonight!

I will be rooting for whoever plays the Rangers.

Well, LINYmom, that would be the Flyers and last night, they were totally inept. :)

We are just warming up. False confidence

Scoreboard, bevhills.

But Sharks coach McClellan has the right idea about last night’s game. Someone asked him what he would change, so that if the Sharks were up 5 goals they wouldn’t have a letdown like they did last night. And he kind of looked at the reporter sideways, and said he wasn’t worried about it because the situation isn’t going to come up again. Nobody thought either team was going to have any 5-goal lead in any game of the series, and nobody thinks either team is going to have any 5-goal lead in any of the next six games, so it doesn’t matter. Most people

Welcome back, Tomas Hertl and Raffi Torres. Both missed almost the entire season with injuries (in Hertl’s case, an injury caused by a dirty knee-on-knee by Dustin Brown, yes, we remember these things) and both came back just in time to score a goal in the first game of the playoffs.

Oh my goodness, Tampa Bay needs to find new national anthem singers. Yikes.

One thing I like about Canadian teams-- they usually have better anthem singers. And a better anthem, too.

One of the perks of working for the OHL is that I got to hear the Canadian national anthem during every game.
Yes, they have a much better one IMO lol

One of the greatest anthem singers was Roger Doucet who sang at the Forum in Montreal for many years. We go to a few games in Pittsburgh each year. I don’t know if he’s still there but they had a wonderful man named Jeff (I believe) who had the most beautiful, pure tone to his voice. Another fun one is Lauren Hart in Philadelphia. She sings the national anthems as well as the ‘lucky’ God Bless America for the Flyers as a duet with Kate Smith (who appears on the screen on the scoreboard). Her mom and mine were friends, many moons ago, and I recall when her mom was pregnant with her.

Toronto usually has auditions before the season starts and a roster of anthem singers. They also sometimes will bring in individuals who are special in some way. Astronaut Chris Hadfield sang the anthem not long after returning from the space station at a Leafs game. He got a standing ovation before he even started singing, it was a pretty moving moment. Not a great voice but a real tribute to him.

Montreal up 3-0 over Tampa Bay with eight minutes left. Looks like they’re going home up 2 games to none.

p.s. Milan Lucic is a cheapshot artist. One of these days, karma is going to come his way.

Way to go Wings! Datsyuk is such an amazing player.

God I love Datsyuk.

Have you seen the “Octopi Hockeytown” logos? I think they’re adorable lol.
Great game. 15 wins to go, Wings

@alwaysamom Yes, I know about last night’s game. That’s why I didn’t mention it!

Pavel rightly won the Selke 3 straight years. My favorite little play of his tonight was when Zdeno Chara, who is 6’9" was coming at him along the boards and Pavel stuck out his butt to give himself just enough room to keep Zdeno’s stick off the puck so Pavel could control it. BTW, when Chara as captain picked his all-star team a few years back, Pavel was his first choice.

These series so often grind to 1 goal here and there, sometimes over multiple overtimes. It’s incredibly tough.

I’m no fan of Detroit, but Datsyuk is a magician.

I forgot to mention that Lucic’s tip that Howard managed to stop was a real highlight. People here tend to describe Milan as a bruiser but the heart of his game is excellent eye-hand coordination and particularly the ability to control the puck at his feet while looking up. Terrific skill player whose violence sometimes gets in the way of his game.
