“65% of last June’s graduates DID graduate with honors.”

Go the summer, fall, or winter convocations where there will still be plenty of college graduates, and the numbers are not so high. There is real upward bias introduced by the clean cut, four years and out crowd. But there certainly has been natural (and justified) honors inflation as students have gotten stronger over recent years.

You also have to consider that the U of C still looses 12-15% of an entering class, so when compared to other top tier schools that loose 2-5%, this should be considered when discussing the perecentage of honors graduates. If UChicago sheparded those students through to the end come hell or high water, honors would be more down towards 50% of the class, which would appear a bit more selective.
