mapesey…they went to your umbrella for warmth. I found hundreds under my grill cover. Ewwww…

I am finding that they love to “hang out” between the lining and the fabric of my drapes in the living room large bow window. This room faces west and gets the afternoon sun. I can see their shadows as the sun comes in the window, since the drape fabric is a light ivory and somewhat translucent. (If my drapes were made of a heavier fabric and/or dark color, I would not have realized they were there.) I have taken out almost 10 between yesterday and today.

YUCK!

I am in SE PA and the stinkbugs are on the march! Besides picking them up and crushing them, I discovered this weekend that if you put them into rubbing alcohol that they will die pretty quickly. I’ve done that with ticks (since we live in the woods), so now I’m keeping a jar of rubbing alcohol by the sink to plop them in. When the jar is full of dead stinkbugs I will flush them. I’m afraid that soon I’ll have so many I won’t be able to pick them off with kleenex and may have to vacuum them, though. I even found one yesterday in my chicken coop–I thought chickens were supposed to eat bugs, I guess they didn’t like the smell!
