Stony Brook EOP program + other questions

Hi alicization,

Yes, generally students are not allowed to access their cell phones during the program. However, most student who have gone through the program have said that this worked to their benefit and really helped them focus. For more information about the EOP program and see student testimonials, I’d encourage you to visit the EOP/AIM website( [Stony Brook University - EOP/AIM](EOP/AIM | Stony Brook University)) or call their office at (631) 632-7090 during regular business hours.

Generally, freshmen students are placed into a particular Undergraduate College (UGC) once they are accepted to the University. UGC placement will largely determine residence hall placement. First-year students are generally placed into one of two types of living arrangement: corridor style or suite style. Corridor style living arrangements are one floor of bedrooms with one large communal bathroom and one shared living space/lounge or kitchen. Corridor style floors are all-male or all-female, and only floor residents use each bathroom. Female floors generally have padlocks on their bathrooms as an extra safety precaution. Suite style residence halls are three shared bedrooms and one shared bathroom and living space. While each suite is made up of all males or all females, there are male and female suites on each floor. There are “quiet” and “substance free” building options available. You can check out the Campus Residences website ([Campus Residences - Housing Options](<a href=“Campus Residences | Stony Brook University”>Campus Residences | Stony Brook University)) for more information about housing options.

As for your question regarding parking, there are no free parking lots on campus for residents who do not have a University-issued parking pass. There is a public parking lot just off of the northern side of campus that is designed for Stony Brook town residents who commute to work via the LIRR. That being said, the University strongly suggests (for safety reasons) that students who have not yet achieved Junior standing not bring their cars to Stony Brook.

Hope this information helps!
