Stores/Businesses that you're surprised are still in business

The company (Dine Brands) which is IHOP and Appelebees) makes $$! There’s nearly 1700 ihop in the U.S. Restaurants close and open, even top ones. IHOP has its niche.

We are going out to a place I haven’t been today - Another Broken Egg. It’s got many. Higher end vs an IHOP. IHOP is lower end but not Waffle House. Like Appelebees, it has its place. So many breakfast places.

In your state.

The only thing people I know go to Ihop for is to play mah jongg! They have free open play games there!

We have 2 Broken Eggs ( one is called Another…)

Nice place

Wasn’t that a plot line on Arrested Development? The Jeffrey Tambor character kept telling the family that the money was in the banana stand, and they thought he was speaking figuratively, until it burned down and Tambor, the father, revealed that he had hidden a fortune in the walls?

I think the band kids from our high school keep the local IHOP in business – that is the place to go after football games depending on how big the group is. (If it’s a smaller group, they go to Waffle House.)

Back in the Stone Age, it was the choir kids who kept IHOP in business. We went (a group of 20 or more) every.single. Friday night after games or just because. The staff knew us well, and we took the whole back almost half of the place. And we sang for fun.

That IHOP closed decades ago. Funny, I think at our 10th HS reunion, we went for old times sake…and it just wasn’t the same (but we still had a large crowd and we still sang).

And we tipped our waitstaff very well!

My oldest is a lifelong choir kid, so I get it! I used to haul her and her friends around in my minivan, and instead of the usual teenage girls screeching along to songs, I’d hear beautiful singing. And at birthday parties at our house, the singing of happy birthday included harmonies. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

She’s actually in her first year of her SLP masters right now – but the first thing she did was join a choir!

I can’t believe GNC is still in business.

On our way back from breakfast, we passed a Bucca di Beppo. It’s still there.

Where the Macaroni Grille used to be I believe.

Thanks for the info about Macaroni Grill. My AZ kid is a huge foodie and prefers fine local restaurants over chains.

But good to know they are still around for young families. It was one of our “special” restaurants we took out kids to for a fancier dinner out.

They had the best bread!

And we appreciated the brown paper on the tables because the kids liked to doodle on it.

Our Macaroni Grill has gone way down hill, the food isn’t good and the service is terrible and it’s never very crowded

This is probably going to be seen differently by some posters, but I went to get a birthday gift for a teenage girl at a store her mom suggested. I have to admit I don’t get why this particular jewelry is so popular with the teens. I guess they aren’t too concerned about quality, as it seemed pretty cheaply made to me (and overpriced for what it is). . I got the gift there but was was underwhelmed. It is Kendra Scott.

After I nought the gift I noticed that some of their stuff was on sale on Amazon during the recent prime days!

It also has over $500m in annual revenue and she’s been a frequent guest on Shark Tank. It’s not my style, obviously, but it’s not going away anytime soon.

Meanwhile, I’ve never heard of Macaroni Grill, but it seem they were never in my area. I guess I didn’t miss anything.

Yes, they’re pretty good at advertising/marketing because it really is pretty poorly made overpriced stuff. It seems to be a fad that’s lasted quite a while, longer than tickle me Elmo and Cabbage Patch dolls.

I think there’s still a macaroni grill somewhere around here, but I’ve never set foot in one

It’s another Olive Garden (Darden - which owns Olive Garden, Longhorn, Chuy’s, Cheddars, Ruth Chris and more) or another Carrabbas which is part of Bloomin Brands (Outback, Bonefish Grill, Flemings).

In other words, another mass brand. It used to be a part of, but I don’t think anymore, Brinker - which owns Chilis and Maggianos.

I went to a Macaroni Grill a long time ago and the wait staff sang opera selections.
