Sudaphed has been behind the pharmacy counter for a long time. Probably saves them time to have people come with the slip instead of another thousand inquiries asking if they have it.
Sudafed has required your driverās license and been behind the counter for many many years, ever since home cooked meth became something folks did. It makes no senseāyou can only buy one container of sudafed per day, regardless of the quantity. If you want two different strengths, you have to have 2 people and 2 IDs or come on separate days. Yes, the pharmacist agrees itās a bad rule but he has to follow it.
Walgreens seems to have more locked up than our CVS, and yes, they lock the batteries and you have to wait for their worker who has a key.
Costco has their jewelry locked up and their very expensive alcohol and some electronics. You fill out a card and give it to the cashier and they will get it for you after you pay.
Nobody ever said the meth cookers were paying for the Sudafed.
I read an ingredient could be added so that the sudafed couldnāt be used to make meth but the makers decided to keep formulation as it is.
Fortunately we mainly buy it so we can bring it when we travel in case of sinus issues but itās irksome that I have to come with another person or separate days. My D likes the all day formulation while H & I like the short-acting formulation.
Thatās not exactly right. Sudafed contains pseudoephedrine, which is whatās used to make meth. Johnson & Johnson attempted to reformulate by substituting phenylephrine for pseudoephedrine (and in fact market the reformulated product as Sudafed PE), but the efficacy of phenylephrine as a nasal decongestant is questioned.
Blockquote the efficacy of phenylephrine as a nasal decongestant is questioned.
Well I believe that the efficacy of phenylephrine was proven to be nonexistent.
I was taking prescription sudafed in college for a snorkeling course I was taking. I finally realized it was crazy to have to take drugs so I could swim in an indoor pool. I rarely need it except when Iām ill or sometimes for travel.
On the advice of counsel, I try to stay clear of absolute pronouncements.
In CVS if I attempt to self check out childrenās Benadryl chewables, the alarm goes off and somebody comes and checks my ID. (My adult daughter uses these when she get an allergic reaction and they work very quickly.)
I was shocked to go to a Fred Meyer (kroger) in my old town (suburb of portland) and first there was a sign that they check receipts at the door, two the public restroom could only be accessed with a code that you had to go get at customer service and then all the jeans were locked up on this cord thing.
My hairdresser said she and another woman were getting their receipts checked one day while a man brazenly ran out with his full cart of stolen stuff. So basically honest people have to be checked and pay higher prices while the bad actors do what they want. If feels like an alternate reality sometimes
So far the grocery stores I go to arenāt checking receipts as you exitāonly Walmart & warehouse stores. I havenāt seen problems but some have reported that people are walking out of Safeway with stolen goods.
Thatās a perfect description. Welcome to the new ānormalā. When will all of the honest people have enough and actually force a change?
On local FB Iāve read stories of people taking a cart full of unpaid power tools out the door at Home Depot. Cashiers are not supposed to engage (for their own safety), just call the police. Thieves have time to escape before police arrive.
Hey at least the police come!
Yes, Fred Meyer seems to be the worst for some reason.
Since Realtor.com and Zillow took the crime map overlays off of their websitesā¦locked doors at a TJās or grocery storeā¦along with how many and which items were behind lock and key ā¦were some of the things our kids scoped out when looking for their homes.
Fred Meyer made a deal with the Portland Police Bureau. They would do things to up their security ā thus the folks checking receipts, locked cases, etc. ā and the police would do periodic drivebys and come when they called. I havenāt heard any updated data from the agreement, but thatās why they started a lot of new security measures.
Theft hasnāt been increasing except on the news.
Itās up 88% in Portland.
And thatās just reported. When the cops donāt come, people stop reporting.
